Since my dad passed away 4 years ago I think a lot more about life and death, what it all means, what I should do....no real answers, so i occasionally shitpoast here, lol.
I think about it a lot more now. No real life event to trigger it. Oddly, I think it was the last cat I got. Got the cat 3 years ago and cat's live about 16 years, and that would put me at 70 which I feel is within one standard deviation of death. Cats don't live all that long and I've got about 1 cat's life left in me. Then I look at how long I've been here in CA, about 12 years now... and I reflect on how little I've done in those 12 years. I've worked a lot, but not much else. I need to start doing some shit before I'm too old to do any of it.

This got me thinking, and I tried to search for the MP on the google. I moved a lot as a kid and left Illinois after 6th grade. Every now and then I search for my old elementary school friends. One of them i found went to prison for robbing a 7-11, one moved to Chicago and became a food photographer, and my best friend works for the the Catholic Diocese somewhere in Illinois. I haven't tried to touch base with any of them, though I think about it a bit. I did touch base with an old college friend a few years ago and was able to meet up with him on a trip to Ohio. We now text every now and then. That is another aspect of getting older for me anyway, is thinking about people i used to know and wondering how their life went and if I should try to contact them and say hello. Do any of you ever look for old friends or has anyone you knew a long time ago ever contacted you ?

Damn, from his humble roots and experience in an Iowa Kmart my friend apparently became an engineer (yay!) and later president of a company that works on truck suspensions. Now you know...the rest of the story.

          • I do this from time to time. When I find a person, I usually write some short message,

hey, it's me, heyelander from wherever. Just found you on some site and thought I'd reach out. Looks like you are doing well, hope life is good!

Then I get back some excited writing with tons of paragraphs, Great to hear from me! updating me on their life and reminiscing about something or other we did back in the day, etc.

And I never write them back.

I jumped schools a ton (different school every year from 5th to 10th grade) and all of my family has left Northern VA where I grew up, so I don't have any reason to go back. So much of the time I feel like my childhood was a story I read about in a book rather than my actual life experience. I remember it all, but it doesn't feel like I have any connection to it.

Damn, I moved around so much growing up, i totally understand. There is a sort of a hope to reconnect, but then the practicalities of life hit you.
