  • 2k15 First Round Fantasy Picks

    It's never too early, and the Altuve thread got me thinking -- who are potential 1st round (figure Top 15) fantasy picks?

    Many of the 2k14 first rd hitters fell off the map, and not sure who's jumped up to take their place.

    I think these are sure-fire 1st rounders (in no order):

    1 - Miggy
    2 - Trout
    3 - Abreu
    4 - Cano
    5 - McCutchen
    6 - Stanton
    7 - Kershaw
    8 - Goldschmidt
    9 - Adam Jones -- maybe he's underappreciated, but the dude comes to play literally every day

    Possible 1st rounders:
    - Felix
    - Beltre -- age doesn't stop him
    - Bautista
    - Justin Upton
    - Ellsbury
    - Encarnacion
    - Scherzer
    - C. Gomez

    Have they made the jump?
    - Puig
    - Brantley
    - Rizzo
    - Altuve
    - Sale
    - Strasburg
    - Desmond
    - Rendon
    - Billy Hamilton

    We can't really consider them now, can we?
    - Braun -- underwhelming without PEDs
    - Hanley
    - CarGo -- ditto
    - Tulowitzki -- who will really risk a 1st rounder on him?
    - Bryce -- you've gotta be an avid Kool-Aid drinker
    - Longoria

    Fell off the 1st round map
    - Chris Davis
    - David Wright
    - Votto
    - Fielder
    - Rios

    Who else should be considered?

  • #2
    I think that Sale is up there, he's almost as dominant as Kershaw is with a crappy club and a bad pitchers stadium. Puig has dropped off for me, he's taking walks, but he can't drive the ball with any authority at all since the AS break. He's got to go and look at what he was doing in May and get back to that. I'd still take Bryce...that homer off kershaw was a thing of beauty.

      Here's a rough top-20

      Trout
      McCutchen
      Stanton
      Kershaw
      Miggy
      Abreu
      Goldschmidt
      Brantley
      Gomez
      Altuve
      Felix
      Upton
      Ellsbury
      Jones
      Hamilton
      ~~~~
      Rendon
      Cano
      Bautista
      Frazier (not even listed!?)
      Pence (ditto)
      Hornsby's right, Sale probably should be in here somewhere too.
        here's a new name to consider: Corey Dickerson. He's got to be at least in the Top 50 now, eh?
          I had Sale listed.
          Can you really consider Frazier? His second half has been awful: .247 BA, .650 OPS, 4 HRs.
            Another guy I don't see listed is Dickerson. In just 113 games, he has 22 HRs, 66 RBIs, 67 Runs. That's > 30/100/100 over a full season.
                He's been a stud, and he had the ML pedigree. I'm not sure he's a 1st rounder, but man, I'd be hard-pressed to pass on him at the tail end of Rd 2. Has he even surpassed CarGo?
                  I just meant Sale should probably be in my list. Didn't realize Frazier had been so bad in the 2nd half, but there aren't many 20/20 players out there, and none at 3B.
                    CarGo is a guy I'd never draft so I'd certainly take Dickerson over him. Top-30 for sure IMO, I can't find 9 more (20 + Sale) I'd take ahead of him.
                    eta: Encarnacion and Rizzo are the only two I think.
                      obviously not round one, but Chris Carter? Posey? Seager? Carter you have to really buy into his second-half improvement.
                      In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.
                        I traded Adam Jones for Jered Weaver and a floundering Chris Carter a couple of months back. I hit a home run on that trade...
                          7 - Kershaw
                          8 - Goldschmidt
                          9 - Adam Jones
                          Plus these:
                          - Felix
                          - Beltre
                          - Scherzer
                          - C. Gomez
                          - Sale
                          And one more that nobody mentioned:
                          - Cueto
                          I know a lot of people question his ability to stay healthy. But, Cueto's next start will give him 30 or more in 5 of his 7 seasons. And he has 200+ ip in 2 of the last 3 seasons. That's good enough for me.
                          2nd rounders (again in no order):
                          Altuve
                          Strasburg
                          Rizzo
                          Encarnacion
                          Bautista
                          Cruz
                          Brantley
                          Pence
                          Baumgarner
                          Greinke
                          Hamilton
                          Dee Gordon (better numbers than Hamilton and at 2B)
                          Tulowitzki
                          Tanaka
                          Darvish
                              I know he's been slumping some lately, but no love for Donaldson, at least in the 2nd rounder discussion?
