  • More adventures in small sample size and recency bias

Can you guess the worst qualified hitter in MLB over the last 30 days by wRC+ or wOBA?

(hint: he's second in the league in HR)

In the last 30 days, Nelson Cruz is hitting .115/.204/.172 in 98 PA, with one homer, 6 runs, and 4 RBI.

Also in the bottom 10: Leonys Martin (.192/.241/.244 with 6 runs, 2 RBI, and 2 steals), Choo but you already knew he was sucking, Jay Bruce (.188/.270/.238 with a homer, 7 runs, and 5 RBI), Ian Kinsler (.231/.248/.269), and Mark Trumbo who has been awful since he came back from injury (.224/.253/.263 with no homers and 28% K-rate).

Surprising names in the top 10: Chris Coghlan (.359/451/.577), Yan Gomes (.349/.386/.609 with 5 HR, 13 R, 17 RBI), Adam Eaton (.432/.485/.523 off a .500 BABIP), and Chris Carter (.321/.376/.643 with 7 HR).

There are basically no surprises on the pitching side unless you thought Jered Weaver was still decent.
In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.
