  • NL - worst catchers choice

I had someone help out this year and told him to spend $1 on each catcher

    Well-
    I got
    Dioner Navarro
    JR Towles

Not sure if there is a downgrade there but I want an upgrade

Here is a list of potential catchers - there may be more but not uncovered yet

who should I cut and pickup?
WOW - this might be one of the most questions in a while

    John Baker
    Henry Blanco
    J.C. Boscan (NR/In Camp)
    A.J. Ellis
    Chris Hatcher
    Brett Hayes
    Koyie Hill
    Jason Jaramillo (NR/In Camp)
    Rob Johnson
    George Kottaras
    Gerald Laird (Sidelined)
    Jose Morales
    Michael Nickeas
    Wil Nieves
    Ronny Paulino (Suspended)
    Humberto Quintero
    David Ross
    Dusty Ryan (NR/In Camp)
    Brian Schneider
    Eli Whiteside (Sidelined)

I would pick up David Ross, and drop Navarro.

^this. that's a pretty bad list of available catchers...

I would go with George Kottaras for the short term. Jonathan Lucroy is out and Kottaras' plate profile is pretty OK for a catcher. His BA looks awful but it was on a 21% hit rate and Kottaras has decent pop and decent speed for the CA position.

I would think you are going to want ABs and someone who won't hurt you. David Ross has really good power but he still is the backup catcher in Atlanta. I would think a Kottaras/Ross pairing would play better than Navarro/Towles.

Kottaras because he will get more PT than Ross

Geesh, was gonna say the same.
Kottaras 1st if you have great BA and little power, otherwise I like Ross better.

                HQ has Ross-Kottaras at 18th-19th

                  10 teams

I wasnt there and am pretty sure everyone kept outbidding whoever he threw out.

Towles did have upside a few years ago - I am guessing that is long gone

                    re Kottaras: http://www.actasports.com/statoftheweek/

He's had a huge spring and they don't love Lucroy that much...
In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.

Ross first, and then Kottaras. As JC said first, I'd switch both. As a Brewer homer, I'm not as excited about Kottaras as others (IMO, Lucroy will get the majority of the ABs), but even with only 250 ABs, Kottaras won't suck anywhere near as much as either Navarro or Towles. And Ross is much better than either; heck, he might even help your team BA while contributing low-end counting numbers.
I'm just here for the baseball.

I take Paulino and his BA.

If you have a great ba Ross. As a homerun junkie I have rostered him many times and he kills your ba most years.

                          Paulino is out indefintely.

Regardless of what happens with Lucroy, or if you even go with Kottaras, you are going to need to manage that roster spot until something develops or you can swing a deal. Kottaras is not an answer long-term, but to get started I think he is a solid choice given the PT, the profile and the lineup. Granted, he'll hit 8th but how picky can we get here?
