  • Recently drafted players available - who to pick up?

CBS just added all the significant players from the recent draft. Might be just the 1st round, not sure. In my keeper we can pick these guys up and stash them on our farm teams. Unfortunately we can only keep 6 minor leaguers so I have some problems. In addition to the new guys, I've also been watching these players as possible adds:

    Nimmo
    Michael Taylor (WAS)
    Teoscar Hernandez
    Daniel Norris
    Jake Lamb
    Tim Anderson

I like fast moving prospects or the top pick in the draft so I'm looking at these guys from the draft:
    Aiken
    Schwarber
    Conforto
    Zimmer
Maybe Jackson and Turner. Gordon in MIN will take a while I'm afraid.

    I currently have these guys:

    Bryant
    Baez
    Rodon - drafted before season
    Alcantara
    Alfaro
    O'Brien - might cut
Micah Johnson - plan to cut
    Bedrosian - plan to cut
    Lively
Danny Salazar - on expiring contract, can cut if not going to help me this year
    Wisler

So basically, who from my two lists of prospects do you like better than any of those I have rostered already. And I do have one open slot.

I might be able to trade Baez for some help this year and I would be inclined to do it if I could pick up someone to replace him that would be top 25 next preseason and not too far away from being called up.

I would drop Bedrosian, Lively, O'Brien and Alfaro. And it looks like Salazar may not figure things out this year so I might him too. I'd take Lamb, Norris, Aiken, Jackson and Gordon (he may develop faster than you think). If you dont want Gordon, then I'd take Taylor. I'd also keep M Johnson, but if you want to drop him, then keep Alfaro.

    Edit:
Oh, you have an open slot. Then take Nimmo also.

      thanks for the reply.

So I assume you are downgrading Alfaro because he's a C? What if he moved to RF? Law says Alfaro has 70 or 80 power and an 80 arm. He's also about the most athletic C you'll find so a move to RF would probably be possible.

So you agree that Lively isnt nearly as good as his stats suggest he is?

Considering I dont like to wait very long, you dont think Conforto and Zimmer are worth it? I think Law said Conforto could be up next summer.

I actually like Alfaro, just not as much as some of the others. He's particularly intriguing because of his SBs, altho BA says his speed is only a 50 grade. Law says 70-80 power? If so, then I should move him up. BA's report says "only" plus power. Also says he's raw as a defensive catcher and has a lot of swing and miss but confirms the 70 grade on his arm. Law didnt rank him in his mid-season Top 25. .

Yeah, that's kinda what I'm hearing about Lively, but he's on my radar. His FB sits 92-93 so he's not a soft-tosser, and he's projectible at 6'4".

I dont know exactly where to rank Conforto, or Zimmer either FTM. BA says Conforto was the best all-around hitter in the draft, has plus power, but is a bat-first guy. Up by next year? So much the better. Maybe I should have him up w guys like Alex Jackson and Nick Gordon. I just dont know at this point. I'm eager for him to start playing so we can see what he can do. If you believe he's that good, by all means take him.

oh I know nothing. I just read stuff. I've read that Conforto will likely hit for power but not for AVG and his defense is below average. But he's just about ready so thats a big plus.

          from chat:
How good to you think Alfaro can be? He seems to have turned a corner this year from good prospect to potential upper tier prospect.
          Klaw:
Could be top-3-catcher-in-MLB good. Well, maybe not right now given who's there, but when he's peaking and guys like Molina and Posey are post-peak. Alfaro has 70 or 80 power, 80 arm, can be an above-avg receiver (has to control his intensity a little more), and while he's never going to be Eddie Yost he's less impatient than he was two years ago.
Was 44th on Law's preseason top 100 and I dont think he's done enough to move up much. Might be on the top 50 update coming in a few weeks.

I've seen projections of Zimmer being a 20-20 guy in the majors. Not sure how far away but another college player who shouldn't take too long.

I picked up Aiken, Conforto, Lamb, and Nimmo. I was outbid on Schwarber and I forgot to grab Norris but he's still available.

Nola, who the phillies took 7th, is said to be nearly ready as well, but is probably a 3ish pitcher.
