ooops, you are correct about the two numbers I illustrated but they are not 3.8 era instead of 1.8 era...so my point is still good.

He did his trade to acquire stroman so I am not trying to convince another owner of anything. My response to him was 'good luck with your new blue jay pitcher'.

As for playing roto, are you suggesting that stroman is a better acquisition than soria?

I like Stroman, but you would really rather have Stroman than a $1 Soria? I would not trade a $1 Soria for Stroman.

Just curious about the owners history in the league. Did he ever win the league...ever get in the money..or does he consistently finish in the lower half of the league?

Probably not but my point is that its not a terrible decision to prefer Stroman and I dont think that this trade means the owner is a "really bad roto player."

Will Soria need a contract after this year?

Me either. In an only-league i would think Soria has plenty of value, especially a keeper league at $1. I would want someone like Garrett Richards or Ventura for $1 Soria.

This is his fourth season. last...last...second.

This year, he is last again.

              He loads up on prospects.

If we are talking about values, cost, production, and anything else statistical that has to do with roto, then the ONLY choice is soria. If we are talking about a man crush or something like that, take which ever player you want.

Soria is $1 next season or can be extended by $5 per extra year - (my conservative style would be to leave him at a buck).

I asked because players who never win and usually finish well down in the standings are more likely to draw the ire of fellow owners for their seemingly incomprehensible moves and trades. and more often than not, rightly so.

so to compare 2 yrs of each it would be Soria $6/yr vs Stroman $5/yr.

Its funny that you think Stroman is so worthless that the only reason to acquire him is due to a man crush. In my leagues SP are more valuable than closers. Closers are easier to find.

It isn't that I think stroman is worthless. I think the choice is soria in this particular comparison. And I wouldn't extend soria to $6 so it is one year of soria vs two years of stroman.

Yeah, starters are prime assets but a rookie pitcher vs the proven closer (who is cheaper)? Come on, run a poll on rj. I predict a clear victory for soria...

have you considered that the extra year, or more than one extra year if Stroman does great next year, could have been the deciding difference?

The poll question would be this:

Does trading for two years of Stroman $5/yr rather than one year of Soria $1 or two years at $6/yr make an owner a "really bad roto player?"

And I think you'd find that the No's would win.

fair enough, hehe, you might be correct. And you know what, I am being too hard on that owner.

But if the poll is $1/one year or $6/two years of soria vs $5/two years of stroman, I'm betting soria wins rather easily.

I think you're right about that, I just didnt think it was a clear cut situation where the new Stroman owner was an idiot.

His hitting wasn't bad. He as usual failed to improve his team in-season via trades and FAAB. The bottom line is, he's lazy, hasn't finished in the money since 2000, and yet still returns every year with the exact same strategies and non-strategies.

Stroman's rough stats this year would seemingly put a damper on his prospect status, especially since scouts worried about him being too short to last as a starting pitcher. Add to that the fact that he pitches in the AL East and I would not be targeting him in a trade.
