  • tony sipp in tonight's game

never heard of, or seen this, before.

sipp has pitched 1.2 innings, is replaced by williams (to pitch to goldschmidt). sipp sent to right field. goldschmidt walks. sipp comes *back* to the mound to strike out montero. could get 2 holds in a single game, right? weird.

Mets used to do it with a RHP and LHP. I wanna say Roger McDowell and Jesse Orosco, but I may have the names wrong.

During a game from the Pirates last championship season of 1979, manager Chuck Tanner moved closer Kent Tekulve to left field after he had gotten the first two batters out in the ninth inning. Lefty Grant Jackson got the final out on.....what else..... a fly ball to Tekulve in left field.

Yes, I remember an extra-inning game where the Mets had both McDowell and Orosco in, one playing LF and the other pitching depending on the handedness of the batter.

I've always thought it was a pretty cool move to make

I remember the Cubs doing it with Kerry Wood when he was the closer. They put him in LF while a lefty faced one batter, then took the lefty out, put Wood back on the mound, and put in a new LF. It was on Sunday Night Baseball, back when it could be watched with the sound on, so of course Morgan and Miller acted like pitchers in the majors have never played the field in their lives. The cameras were on Wood with every pitch, and he looked pretty scared out there; considering the vagaries of playing a ball off the ivy at Wrigley, I can understand that.

sounds like something the O's should try out with Hunter & Britton
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

In that platoon I think Hunter would play the OF the entire inning.
