Per Dylan Hernandez on May 8th, Mattingly: Puig has established himself in RF. Kemp playing well, when he's not in lineup, it's for him to take a day off.
I seriously don't understand why some of these morons even talk since they so often contradict themselves.
"Matt Kemp will start working out in left field during the Dodgers upcoming homestand, Manager Don Mattingly said."
“We’re just feeling like giving him more time to really get healthy,” Mattingly said. “Not that he’s not healthy, but just to get all the way back. We feel it’s going to be best at this point to get work in left field, continue to work center, as he kind of gets back to 100% -- 100% where he was a couple years ago.”
I'm not a big fan of Ethier anymore, particularly as a center fielder, BUT if there's a problem with Kemp physically or mentally, the Dodgers aren't fielding such a bad outfield with him on the bench. Kemp needs to get himself in gear.
EDIT TO ADD: Rotoworld points out that Crawford really can't play anywhere but left field, and that a Crawford/Kemp platoon in left may not work because Kemp is hitting RHP better than lefties this year. So either Kemp in left is a short-term measure, or someone has to go. Could the Dodgers find someone willing to take all or part of Crawford's remaining contract (3 more years, $61.25 million, plus the rest of this year's $20.25 million)?
Kemp (and Hanley) on the bench again tonight. They may have to put Kemp on the DL with a phantom injury if this keeps up. His ego must be badly bruised by now.
