  • Stephen Drew Re-Signs with Red Sox

1 year deal, just before the MLB First Player Draft when everyone else would've gotten into the mix.

Weird. He got so close to the draft and then caved to sign a 1 year deal worth 10 million?

Yeah, can only speculate that the offers he was getting was likely of the 2 year variety that may not have come close to $14m per, or that a new team signing him to a 1 year deal for a cheaper amount would give him a qualifying offer again. By signing the 1 year deal with Boston, he goes back on the market this off-season without any type of qualifying offer that derailed his free agency this season.

they're saying Middlebrooks sits & Bogaerts goes to third.

I'd assume that this would this be prorated? If he gets only two-thirds of a season in, he only gets 6.67 mil.
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

I read somewhere that it was pro-rated, yes.

now that I think about it, if I could get 6-7 mil for four months work, I'd probably go with that - I'd love to take a couple of months off ...

He's signing for $14.1m, which is prorated and will equal $10m.

Does Drew get a 1 year deal, multi year deal or a minor league invite next spring ?

Either one year pillow contract (unlikely) or a three year deal from NY unless they think they can work a trade with Chicago for some of their excess SS talent (unlikely). I expect next year's NY infield to be (god help them) Texieira, Prado, Headley/A-Rod (primarily DH), Drew with McCann/Cervelli the C tandem (assuming they trade John Ryan Murphy).

His agent really screwed the pooch for him, and as he's batting a robust .167 this season, I'd have to imagine there aren't too many teams willing to give him a multi-year deal.

The SS market isn't that thin either, as Hanley, Rollins, Hardy, Lowrie & Asdrubal will likely be on the market.

I can see him ending up in CLE as a safety net for Lindor. Blue Jays?
