In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.
The head first slide is such a difficult pill to swallow for any organization, because you have to like a player's toughness and grit to be able to make that call and slide head first (which generally gives you a more deft means by which to attempt to avoid a tag, thus a better percentage at being safe). But it's a double-edged sword because the play also opens the player up to more risk. I think for a player with Buxton's skillset, you'd have to believe the organization would sit him down sooner than later and have a chat with him about his longterm viability for the team as well as the bottom line for him, too (i.e. money). It's tough to get paid as much if you get labeled an injury risk. And it's also tougher to make it to the majors as quickly if you're not on the field.
