If he can bat, and his 2 for 5 last night seems to indicate he can, wouldn't they be best served to use him at DH and put off surgery until they are out of it or the offseason? Non-pitchers don't usually need the full year recovery from TJS, and he could probably still DH to start next year if need be.

Obviously a Wieters owner here with his fingers crossed, grasping at straws, looking for a ray of hope, etc.

Hitters are more like 8 months though, right? Do it in early October and he's back by the all star break next year.

Now, their other catching options are so bad that they might not want to keep him as a DH all year. But I do think it's an interesting idea.

Yeah, and like I said, I think the only limitation is throwing. I think he'd be able to swing a bat by Opening Day and could just DH til around the All-Star break, so technically they wouldn't miss his bat at all.

Good news.

Orioles catcher Matt Wieters had his right elbow examined by Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday morning and the Gold Glover is not a candidate for surgery, according to a baseball source.

The O’s have not made any official announcements regarding Wieters but the sense is he can avoid the disabled list and remain at designated hitter –which is what he did on Tuesday– while working his way back to going behind the plate.

Agreed, the point was if they felt they had DH AB's available for Morales, then they would have them available to Wieters instead, which is the route they appear to be taking.

Looks like he was placed on the DL today when Chris Davis was activated as Wieters name was not listed anywhere on the lineup card today.
