My last keeper decision was between Venable and Yordano....i chose...Yordano...

I was gonna say that at least you're not an idiot, but then I realized that you probably just got lucky.

True. I placed two dog treats in my living room, one with Venable next to it and the other with Ventura next to it. Let my dog choose one. Thank goodness my dog chose wisely!

Venable put together a very quiet 20/20 season last year. His average HR distance was among the lowest of guys who qualified for ESPN's Golden Sledgehammer but he wasn't an obvious outlier like Coco Crisp. He didn't benefit from an unsustainable BABIP in 2013 either.

He seemed poised to benefit from more regular playing time this year. I expected some regression in power but he's always been a high percentage stealer so I figured he'd be able to contribute SBs. But he's put up a Hibbert line so far.

Last years April numbers: .206 AVG 2 HR 9 RBI 3 SB 8 R. He rebounded to have a really nice second half with a great August: 367 AVG 8 HR 15 RBI 6 SB 20 R.

So perhaps he's a slow starter, but right now I'd be happy with last years April numbers.

I pointed it out in the Padres thread, but the team just isn't sold on Venable as anything more than a platoon player. Sure, injuries will give him more than that, but Denorfia and Smith have forced themselves in to more consistent time and Maybin is back and playing well, so that doesn't leave much for Venable. Especially when Quentin comes b.....haha ha ha ha haha haha....sorry, I just couldn't complete that last sentence.

Anyway, if Venable is going to produce another 20/20 season, he's going to have to do it with less than 500 ABs (if Maybin stays healthy, it'll be closer to 400). He'll get hot from time to time but he's not consistent at all. Which basically describes the entire Padre offense.

Signed with Phillies. Rosterresource shows him as platoon starter vs rhp. He still steals bases. Better fantasy option than Goeddel for this year?

Erik Goeddel, the Mets bullpenner? Certainly.

presumably you mean against rhp, since venable bats lefty? better side of the platoon...

I believe he means TYLER Goeddel, the Phils' Rule-5 pick. Reading McKannin's remarks this morning, I think Venable will be sent down and Goeddel and Hunter will make up the end of the OF bench. As fluid, though, as is the OF and team in general, Venable may yet come up later if he does well in AAA. They do want to keep Goeddel.
