  • long way off - Ben Lively

Two years ago about this time I posted this about a Reds pitcher in high A ball:

I got sucked in by his amazing numbers in rookie ball last year (51 innings, 35 hits, 6 walks, 80 strikeouts, 1.75 ERA) and took him as a long-range prospect. He's in high-A this year and through three games: 17 innings, 8 hits, 4 walks, 20 strikeouts, 0.53 ERA. He's a long way off but you might want to think about him at some point.
    That was Tony Cingrani.

Ben Lively, also a high-A pitcher for the Reds, also in the Cal League, after five starts: 29 innings, 13 hits, 1 walk, 40 strikeouts, 0.31 ERA.
In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.

also Moonlight was very sad that I correctly guessed he was going to bid on him this week and the exact amount he was going to bid, so that's worth something.

HE WENT TO UCF....OF COURSE I AM PISSED OFF ABOUT THIS!!!!!

In all honestly, he has a 3rd starter ceiling if everything breaks right. I sat on a few of his games last season. He throws 90-93 & has a nice breaking ball. Struggled with the changeup and was out-dueled by Chris Anderson (Dodgers 1st rounder) last time I saw him pitch at UCF.
