  • Cain for Cishek, NL-only 5x5

I've got a whopping 19 SV already, with lame duck Cishek 10, Hawkins 10-S1, and K-Rod 2 (and Ziegler 1 as a longshot).

Cain is 26-S2, shaky keeper price so mainly a "this year" deal. He'd slot in behind CLee and Greinke and ahead of Leake in my rotation, and pretty much leave me in good shape across the board in pitching (hitting, er, needs work).

Not a huge fan of Cain, and Cishek is the NL's most underrated closer, but deal would seem to balance both staffs nicely.

    no-brainer?

    SP SGray 16, TWalker 10, AWood 10, Price 3, KH Kim 2, Corbin 10
    RP Bednar 10, Bender 10, Graterol 2
    C Stallings 2, Casali 1
    1B Votto 10, 3B ERios 2, 1B Zimmerman 2, 2S Chisholm 5, 2B Hoerner 5, 2B Solano 2, 2B LGarcia 10, SS Gregorius 17
    OF Cain 14, Bader 1, Daza 1

I wouldn't do it...that saves lead can be erased pretty quickly with Cishek gone, and The Hawk always close to the edge of being dealt/losing his position. And frankly, I'm not liking a lot of what I see in Cain...this is a guy who's thrown a TON of innings, and we may be seeing the effects.

      interesting, Horns

Cain owner not that fond of him, but proffering that he might pull back if Cain has a strong outing Mon at SD

HQ projects Cain at $16 for rest of yr in 5x5 and Cishek at $19, although if that held up it's likely that I'd get more pts from Cain

Hawkins has been lights out since a shaky season debut, while Brothers has been shaky and now usually pitches well before even the 8th inning

odd that I'm doing so well in K and ERA and Ratio and ok in W with only 3 useful SPs, but my RPs are something like 3 ER in 50 IP and Lee and Greinke are cranking out Ks and Greinke has 4 Ws

Obviously a lot of us were wrong on the Brothers front, but now you have Ottavino lurking in the wings. It really depends on if the Rockies are buyers or sellers at the break, if they sell, Hawkins will likely be a valuable commodity.

I think that K-Rod is locked in now, they simply can't remove him while he's as lights out as he is. But that said, Cishek is really the only guy that you have that's a lock to keep the job, IMO. I'd see if there's a cheap upgrade from Delgado and go that direction...keep getting good K's and ratios from your relievers.

ironically Cishek just blew his 1st SV in 34 tries dating back to almost a year.
Mets down to last strike with hapless Quintanilla, he hits single to LF, Duda barely at 3B as Yelich gets to the ball, great chance to nail Duda at home - but Yelich falls down. tie game, 3-3

Nieuwenhuis with a 2B for 2nd and 3rd, Granderson up in the Mookie role - and Garrett Jones pulls a 1986 Buckner on the grounder and the Mets win! they gave Grandy a hit, too...

Hawkins allows 2 ER in SV, Delgado allows his 1st run in relief - 5 ER against for my pen last night after a combined 2 ER all season!

and this trade is now done

well, I think you have to manage a little differently depending on the quality of your roster and where you rank in categories. I now have 22 SV, one team has 12, next-best is 8 (trade won't be effective til Thursday). Cain has a chance to gain me a lot more W and K pts than Cishek does re SV, is my gamble, and my ERA/Ratio so far is solid and I have two really good SPs ahead of Cain.

I still don't have enough offense unless Polanco is the next Trout - and soon! But fun to try to give myself a chance....
