Reynolds v Ike?

NL-only 5X5. Who generates more total roto value in 2014, Mark Reynolds or Ike Davis? I own Reynolds, have been pleasantly surprised thus far. Davis was waived last week (pre-Pirates trade), and I own 1st waiver priority. If I don't grab him, he will surely be snapped up- just trying to decide if Ike is really an upgrade over Reynolds. Deadline is tomorrow night, so any and all opinions are appreciated.

PNC can be a nice place to hit for lefties. The Pirates will keep Ike away from lefty pitchers. Ike has said that NY was messing with his head, so maybe he will legitimately be better in Pittsburgh. He may spend some time hitting cleanup when Alvarez is slumping. There are not a lot of tough lefties in the NL Central (outside of Cingrani, STL/CIN/MIL are almost exclusively righty and the Cubs only have Travis Wood.)

Reynolds is a really streaky hitter. Once he cools off from this streak he may never heat up again. But he plays in a very friendly park and the NL Central is not a tough place to hit. Plus if you look at the dude he just looks like he was meant to be a Brewer.

I do think Ike will be better. However do you keep the #1 waiver priority all year or does it reset every week? Because I am not convinced the difference will be all that big and if you could save that claim for a player traded over from the AL, I might wait.

If you are of the ilk that drafted Reynolds in the first place, I would not drop him while he is playing hot. Trade him yes, drop him no.

Don't you have an MR that you could drop to see what Ike might do?

Ike is lower risk, but I'd not burn a waiver claim on him and drop Reynolds.

Both suck, but in different ways. Reynolds' ceiling is considerably higher than Ike's, particularly in the SB department, so I guess I'd keep him. Is there a way you could pick up Ike by dropping another player? Given that both are somewhat streaky, perhaps you could ride the hot hand and bench the other or something like that.

Yeah, that extra 2SBs per season Reynolds has averaged over Ike is a real perk. lol

Ceiling is the highest someone can reach. Not the average, the peak. I said Mark Reynolds' CEILING is higher than Ike's.

yea those double digit steals in 2009 is certainly a talking point for Marky -Mark in 2k14.

This league has no bench/reserves. Everyone on your team plays, and positions are fixed. There is one UT slot, but that is currently filled by a $1 Blackmon, who I wouldn't cut for either of those guys. So there's no way (barring trade) to carry both of them, cut a reliever for Davis, etc etc. It's either Reynolds or Davis, and I need to decide by tomorrow.

i would take Ike easily over reynolds. the mets absolutely butchered the handling of ike. dont get me wrong. ike dug the hole but the mets either needed to clear him to play first or ship him out. they finally shipped him out and itlooks like pitt will have him the lions share of ABs. if he can hit 32 bombs and drive in 90 at spacious citi field, he should be fine in pitt.
