One Pirate off the bench started talking trash to Gomez after the flareup and ended up knocking Gomez down but it looked like he took a right cross from a huge bald Brewer

It calmed down before it got too bad. Gomez didn't get out of the box very fast after he thought he had homered and after sliding into 3rd..Cole came over to 3rd and started yapping and then it all got started. I think the guys coming off the bench were the main instigators. If I'm an opposing manager in an important game against the Brewers...I put my scrub 1B in and intentionally walk Gomez to start the game. I tell him the minute Gomez steps on 1st...start yapping and we'll get him out of the game in the 1st inning

I didn't see a lot of showboating from Gomez after he hit the deep ball. Maybe if pitchers weren't so sensitive after they screw up a pitch...
Considering his only baseball post in the past year was bringing up a 3 year old thread to taunt Hornsby and he's never contributed a dime to our hatpass, perhaps?

Gomez has a reputation as a douche, fair or not, so when he admires a non-HR, however non-spectacularly, he will get shat on. then he'll get ejected after a kerfuffle, then he'll wonder why he isn't loved.

Cole was dumb, but Gomez has some work to do...

I think that was Martin Maldonado that landed the haymaker. Brewers may have to make a change to the 40 man if he gets suspended, because he and Lucroy are the only catchers they have on it.

                      What you said...

This one is all on Cole...he screwed up and gave Gomez a fat pitch. Gomez it it far enough that he thought it was out, he still made an easy triple, so it's not like he was dogging it out of the box. You can hear Cole dropping the effinheimer on Gomez, for no reason, IMO. Make the pitch, get the guy out, and go back and do your job...

                        You're correct about Maldonado.

after watching it, there was a brief showboat and bat flip after the hit. that seems to be what started it (for cole, then he mouthed off to gogo). but he realized pretty quickly it wasn't going out, or he'd not have made it to third. i wonder if cole's inauspicious start may have more to do with it than the bat flip...

there was a lot better coverage on TV when i was watching earlier - wish i could find it online - more closeups of what was going on. snider went maniac-mode; seemed to be protecting cole, from what i saw, because gomez was going nuts and trying to get to him. wonder what he said. and the bald-guy brewer (if it was maldonado) was also the one in maniac-mode. threw a pretty strong right hook (i think it was at snider, but this is from memory of a clip 8 hours ago or so).

My favorite part is still 5-foot-6 Josh Harrison standing between 6-foot-4 Gerrit Cole and Gomez.
