  • Help please--NL rank 'em

Planning for 10-team, NL-only, 5x5 draft this weekend in Vegas. Would appreciate some help/insight from the Pen in ranking the following:

    A. Simmons
    Peralta
    Morneau
    Crawford
    Cueto
    R. Howard
    C. Johnson
    Granderson
    Venable
    Ashe
    Garza
    Lynn

BTW, after keeping Stanton, here are my 10 keepers: Stanton, Holliday, Heyward, A. Gon, Headley, Revere, Hamels (can't DL because he's expected back before May 1), Cashner, Cingrani and Kimbrel.

You will need some speed with that list of boppers. Only Venable has some, but he wouldn't be at the top of my list, though. Crawford says he wants to steal more, but his health is always a ? mark. You could almost throw a blanket over the hitters, depending on what you need; no one will make or break your team.
    Bearin' up!

I mostly agree with this, although I would put Venable a bit above Granderson. I would also put Cueto in with the second group due to injury history.

          1) Venable - does a little bit of everything to be quite valuable.
          2) Grandy - not quite as much as Venable
          3) Crawford - four LA OFs but someone always will be hurt; he'll get enough ABs and PH/PR when he doesn't start
          4) Cueto - a tier above Lynn
          5) Morneau - yeah, there's some injury concerns, but you can always find a ww 1B to fill in when he does get hurt, and there's some upside here
          6) Simmons - young, can improve
          7) Peralta - boring but will put up enough in all categories
          8) Howard - injury concerns and he's old
          9) Lynn - solid starter but I worry about him fatiguing this year.
          10) Asche - while 3B is thin, I don't see that much production from Asche
