wow, and to think I was kicking myself for not going the extra $1 for him at the auction.

I had to settle for Lee for $9 less. Hmm, I may come out the loser!

First time I've seen a pitcher go in the top 3 picks in my drafts since Randy Johnson in the early aughts. And now this. What a terrible wake-up call for all those guys who paid top dollar for a pitcher. I just can't make myself do it, no matter the upside. About a decade ago, I remember being completely risk averse when it came to arms, and then Mark Prior blew up in my face. That's all it took for me to go to the polar opposite viewpoint -- I avoid starting pitchers where possible in the draft and use the rest of the year to manage my staff and trade for what I can.

Good luck to the Kershaw owners out there this year. I hope he can come back strong and stalwart.

I'd take a quarter to a third off right from the start. It looks pretty likely that you're not going to get any starts from him in April, and maybe only half of May, if all goes well. I paid 41 for him in a 12 team NL only, I'd say that 25 sounds about right.

I agree, low 30's would be a very good price.

He'll go for at least $35 in my draft on Friday. (12-team NL)

I never even considered going after him in my league, figured he go in the low-to-mid 40's, but I might have to reconsider if the bidding stops in the low 30's

Yeah, he was kept in my NL only 5x5 at $45. The owner told me that he is rebuilding and figures to get a haul for him after the auction. Our rules allow for a mulligan on draft day, meaning we can drop or pull back one player. I am wondering if this owner will now throw him back. I am pretty sure he could get him for less and still have his trading chip.

In my last draft, the best starters usually go from between $32-$37. A healthy Kershaw is a cut above and could easily go for $42. This injury probably bumps him into the Mere Mortal category with Wainwright, Lee, Strasberg, et al. I have budgeted to grab one of them, and I wasn't considering Kershaw before the injury. Now, I am.
