It's not a stout looking bullpen leading up to Nathan. Joba is always an adventure. Alburquerque can't throw strikes. Coke is at best a LOOGY. Putkonen was solid last year but his minor league resume is pretty unimpressive. Ian Krol is unproven. Smyly has been moved to the rotation. Benoit has gone west.

I'm surprised a contender like Detroit didn't do more to address what's been a problem area in the recent past. Corey Knebel may be able to help at some point this year but the loss of Rondon will be felt.

With Dirks out 1/2 season and Iglesias and Rondon both gone Tiger's season is becoming a mess. They did make a trade today with the Angels send Alvarez and getting back Romine.

Tigers decided that it was time to manage their payroll which resulted in not resigning Benoit and letting Veras who's contract was less then 4 mil go. What is surprising is last season after Rondon came back from being out and pitched 1 inning immediately getting hurt again. Leyland's comment was something to the effect that he longer expected Rondon back at any point including the play-offs. In the off-season Rondon role was to mainly be the set-up pitcher for Nathan. He is gone now so AA and Chamberlain move up. It also would shock me to see them keep Choke I mean Coke on the roster. Bullpen after Nathan is a mess right now. Not sure if they rash of injuries will change their direction on which players to obtain like Drew/Rollins etc but right now this is team that could be in serious trouble if they still expect to win their division and get back to the WS.

and I'm not sure sold on Castellanos as a 3B without a solid defensive SS next to him. The expected benefit from trading Prince may have vanished with Iglesias' injury, now the bullpen takes a hit. If Cleveland or KC get off to a good start and are willing to make a push (acquiring talent) there could be quite a race....
