  • nl only trade offer

    hello,

i've got an offer of allen craig $15(0), stephen strasburg $15(0) and ryan howard $21(1)

    for

cody asche $5(1), zack wheeler $5(0) and makiel franco $5(2)

short term, i get 2 studs for 2014 but long term, doesn't look good unless i flipped those guys for keepers during the season if my team falters

should i accept the trade or sit with my keepers going into the draft?

any advise is welcome and thanks for the input

Would you have to keep Howard at 21? Can you take him and Asche out or something? I assume 15(0) means Craig and Stras are in their last year.

I honestly think I'd hold off, because I think you could spend the money at auction and then flip Wheeler for a package like Stras and Craig after the auction is over.

I would not have to keep howard, I could throw him back in the pool or trade him if possible, that's if I do acquire him

Yes, craig and strasburg are in their last years of their contracts

      thanks for your input!

I might make the trade, but after the auction. If your league rules allow, I would make the trade immediately following the auction. I would want the dollars to make a run. If you can set up an agreement ahead of time it could work out very well for you.

that owner wants the available money for the draft, given that howard is not a keeper at 21, he is intent on moving stras and craig and that $30 off his roster for young cost effective guys

between asche and franco, which do you prefer? maybe i can amend the offer by offering ozuna $5(1) with the lesser desirable one of the two

I'd do it. It's fairly unlikely that both Asche and Franco end up being valuable - you'd need the Phillies to make a reasonable trade. Franco has much more upside and more years left, so I'd prefer to keep him if you don't need the numbers from Asche this year, but I think I might prefer to trade both of them than give up Ozuna. Not that I love him but he's also a decent prospect with a place to play.
In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.

I'd be all over that trade if I could drop Howard at 21. There's no way I can visualize getting more talent for $30 than that deal.
I'm just here for the baseball.

I'd counter with "You keep Howard and you eliminate any of my three guys from the deal" and hope he goes for it.

If he doesn't go for it, I'd still accept. $15 for Stras and Craig are terrific savings for this year, especially with inflation.

Yep. If you don't have to keep Howard going into the auction, make the deal. If somehow you can't win, you can trade these two to a contender for a good haul.

I am not sure why Howard even needs to be in the deal if he could drop him on his own. But if that is what it takes don't argue, just pull the trigger.

I am not sure I would risk a counter. You don't need him shopping.

thanks for your input, i ended up pulling the trigger on the trade cause he was shopping the same package to another excellent owner, my pitching staff is pretty darn good i think, strasburg, cole, burnett, wood and harvey would have been awesome, had he not blown his elbow...

This, assuming you can drop Howard pre-auction
