  • Need help finding a SP

12-team, 5x5 traditional roto. No salaries, no faab, keeper league, 1600 IP limit. We have 22-man active rosters (14 hitters, 8 pitchers) and an 8-man bench.

My pitching staff is: Bumgarner, Scherzer, Bailey, Salazar, Corbin, Smyly...Balfour, Axford, Soria, Herrera, O'Day, Delabar, Crain (will be going on DL).

So two of the six SPs I drafted are now hurt. First Parker and now Corbin, who will have TJ. I managed to pick up Smyly for Parker, which I was a little surprised by. I thought he should have been drafted by someone.

Now I'm having to figure out who to pick up for Corbin. Any insight/advice would be appreciated. There really is mostly a gaggle of poo on the FA wire.

Here are the available SPs...are any worth picking up for a 6th SP or should I just cut Corbin for a MR with a high K/9 and good ratios?

Wade Miley and every other Arizona SP (Arroyo, McCarthy, Cahill)
    Hector Santiago
    Tim Hudson
    Dan Straily
    Mike Leake
    Miguel Gonzalez (Balt)
    The other Miguel Gonzalez
    Alexi Ogando
    Jhoulys Chacin
    Joe Kelly
    Tommy Milone
    Charlie Morton
    Jeff Locke
    Jonathan Niese
    Zack McAllister
    Henderson Alvarez

Any other names I should look for?

This is so frustrating. My teams in this league have been racked with injuries in each of the last two years. Starting this year like this isn't exactly what I had in mind.

Forgot about him, but he was drafted. The guy who picked him decided to gamble...took Bradley and Ventura.

Straily might be worth a shot since he pitches in Oak. Otherwise the safe route is a MR

I kind of like Santiago in a pitchers park like Anaheim...that screwball gets a lot of K's.

I read somewhere he led the league in called third strikes

Straily is definitely worth a shot. You can always pick up MR's on the waiver wire.

Straily seems a cut above those other guys

Thanks guys. As I started doing research on each pitcher, one by one, Straily became the one who stood out. I ended up cutting Corbin and picking him up.

I could be very misguided on this, but -- as frustrating as it is to have injuries already -- I feel very fortunate to have been able to substitute Smyly and Straily for Parker and Corbin. I do lose something, but it's not going to kill my team. At least they were 5th and 6th SPs, lol.
