  • Looking for the next Trevor Rosenthal

By that I mean a young RP, who should get 80+ Ks with excellent ratios. Moreover, the ones I am looking for will not be on closer in waiting lists--yet. Wins, Saves and Holds would be nice, but not projected. Basically, I am looking for the tools, not the position. These are guys that might go undrafted in 20 team leagues.

Has anyone that fits this description emerged in camp?

Wait a minute... you were in a league in which Rosenthal when undrafted last year? He went as high as $11 in one of my leagues last year.

I did not say he was undrafted last year, though I would wager he was in 2012. He is the type I was looking for. Try Tim Collins spring 2012 if Rosenthal was too obvious. Or Paco Rodriguez.

What's the word on Carter Capps?

One of the things I’ve really had to spend time on as I’ve transitioned to much deeper, dynasty-style leagues over the past few years is relief pitching. In a standard league, I can get away with…
In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.

He went 416th out of 427 total drafted players in my 16-tm redraft last season, which includes 7 RJers.

He was protected in one of my leagues, RJEL. In my NLs (all 12-team) He went for $11 (me), $9, $6 (me), and $1 (me).

Rosenthal's 2013 draft position depended a lot on when your league drafted. Motte suffered what was originally described as a minor elbow strain on 3/21/13. Before that point, there wasn't any reason to think the St. Louis closer's role would be in play. If you picked him earlier than that, you were doing it strictly for K/IP purposes. After Motte went down, Rosenthal became the obvious talent > current role choice for patient owners.

I had that much on Capps. I was looking for an update about how his new team suits him and vice versa.

Valid point. My leagues do RJ style forum drafts. He was not on our radar in February. He turned into the hot pickup later.

True, but I think it has more to do with your league format. I'm in a 12-team NL-only ultra with daily transactions, and most good teams shuffle in and out 5 or 6 middle relievers all year. I grabbed him for $1 as a FAAB and he was on EVERYONE'S radar after that. In my other leagues, he was an afterthought at that time.
