  • My prediction of BA's Top 100

Here's my prediction of the players that will be on BA's Top 100 Prospects list, to be published later today. The order is the order that they are on my roto list. Usually I get about 90 of these names correct and about 7-8 of the ones I miss are on my list of "possibles", of which I have 20 this year. I already know that I've missed at least a couple, because on the MLB channel yesterday they revealed that there were 7 catchers on the list and I have only 6 (pretty sure that Reese McGuire will be the one I missed). And they indicated that Boston has the most players on the list w 8 and I have only 7 (perhaps the other one is Barnes or Trey Ball).

BTW, only 2 of the players I anticipated will be on their list are not in my roto top 150, both catchers. And McGuire likely will be a 3rd.

Also, John Manuel and J.J. Cooper of BA will help reveal and discuss the Top 50 of this list tonite at 9 PM on the MLB Channel.

Well, I didnt do quite as well as I usually do. I missed 13 names and 4 werent even on my "possibles" list:

On BA's list that werent on my list:
    J Gallo (#60)
    S Piscotty (#70)
    JP Crawford (#78)
    R McGuire (#81)
    D Travis (#84)
    T Ball (#89)
    M Semien (#91)
    T Lindsay (#93)
    D Dahl (#94)
    Z Lee (#95)
    J Nelson (#96)
    N Williams (#97)
    J Paxton (#99)

On my list that werent on BA's list:
    P Ervin
    T Anderson
    H Harvey
    J Schoop
    M Almonte
    A Cole
    J Winker
    S Manaea
    V Velasquez
    H Lee
    H Dozier
    T Guerrieri
    J Berrios

McGuire was the catcher that I missed and Ball was the RedSox that I missed.

    They had a 51/49 NL/AL split and a 55/45 hitter/pitcher split.

    Some observations:
    - Tampa had only 1 player on the list (Odorizzi), same number as the Angels and Brewers, who have terrible systems. And he was from another organization and was only #67. How the mighty have fallen.
    - Every org had at least 1 player on the list. BA seems to make a point of doing this each year. I didnt think anyone from the Angels or Milw belonged (T Lindsay and J Nelson made very few other prospect lists). I can remember only 1 year or so where they had an org w no players on the list.
    - Urias is one of the youngest players to ever make the list (wont turn 18 until Aug). And he just missed the top 50 (#51). Sano is the only one I can think of who was younger (#94 in 2010 at age 16).
    - Paxton was the oldest guy on the list, the only player 25 y/o or more on Jan 1 besides the 2 imports.
    - Paxton made the list despite not making a league Top 20. That seldom happens.
    - Ball made the list despite being only #10 on his team top 10. That also seldom happens.
    - C Edwards was surprisingly high at #28, higher than he's been ranked on any other list.
    - I'm very surprised that H Harvey didnt make the list, altho he did make their list of 10 unranked guys who could vault into the top 50 next year. Likewise for M Almonte
    - I thought Gallo might make the list, but I'm surprised he was as high as he was (#60) w the extremely high K-rate that he had.

Based on BA's rankings, I've made significant changes to my list.
