  • 2K14: Jean Segura

When you look at Segura's 2013 season as a whole, it looks tremendously impressive. But when you break it down into first half and second half, something clearly doesn't look right:

    1st Half: .325/.363/.433, 11 HR, 36 RBI, 27 SB
    2nd Half: .241/.268/.315, 1 HR, 13 RBI, 17 SB

That second half, minus the SBs, is brutal. So what happened? Did he wear down, in this, his first full MLB season? Did pitchers figure him out? Was he hiding an injury?

For 2014, I'm trying to figure out if he belongs ahead of Ian Desmond and Jose Reyes, and with SS being relatively weak, if he's a 2nd round pick in a 16-tm mixed league.

Even as a Brewer homer, I agree with elD - drafting Segura in the 2nd, unless you're in a 24-person league, is pretty nuts.

No way he hits 11 HR, IMO. I see him as a 6-8 HR guy with 40 SBs. He does profile as someone who will have higher than normal BABIP (high speed, decent LD rate), so the BA should be solid.
I'm just here for the baseball.

Definitely below Desmond in my mind.

I think Ian has clearly established his expected baseline and it is something I really like 20, 20, 80, 80, and .280

I also think after a year where almost everything went wrong for the Nationals in 2013, I think the Fantasy Gods may smile on the team in 2014.
Comparing a Fantasy Baseball Draft to an Auction is like comparing Checkers to Chess!!!
