  • Kimbrel got paaaaaaaaaaaaaaid

4/$42 base with bonuses, if 5th yr option is picked up, earns as much as $58M. Wowza

Like most long-term deals, it's a bargain for the team if he produces like he has so far in the first 2-3 years of the deal. For him, it's a nice payday at age 26. Not only does he get the big bucks now, but when it's over he'll be only 30 and could get another huge contract.

Love it as a Yankee fan... base under $11million means that even if Robertson has a great 2014 he's looking at 7-8 million.

If any RP is worth that, Kimbrel is. In general, any deal a top tier player at his position gets usually doesn't surprise me, especially a young player. It is when teams pay 2nd tier and below players money not far off the top tier guys that I scratch my head.

You cannot be possibly equating Robertson to Kimbrel, can you?

I bet Greg Holland is having second thoughts about his $4.675 million one year deal now. He'll surely be looking for a deal similar to Kimbrel's next winter if he has another good year in 2014.

              Kimbrel 2013
              50 saves
              98 k's / 67 ip
              1.21 era
              0.88 whip

              Holland 2013
              47 saves
              103 k's /67 ip
              1.21 era
              0.87 whip

Seems reasonable when you consider most Yankee fans are already equating Robertson to Mo.

Get back on your meds, Hornsby. If Kimbrell at $11,000,000 means that Robertson should be limited to roughly $7,000,000...

yes, I do think that's quite clear from Bob's earlier post - Kimbrel sets the ceiling, and everyone else goes below it. So even a really good season by Robertson (which I expect) is not Kimbrel-esque, hence 7-8M max....

LOL....yeah, a guy who's got a TOTAL of 8 career saves is certainly worth of being included in the same conversation as the best closer in the game. And let's not forget that when Mo got injured, Robertson was given the 1st opportunity to close, and spit the bit badly...Let's see him get 40+ saves and average over 100 K's per year for a few seasons, THEN you might be able to talk about the two in the same breath.

If Holland has Kimbrel-esque stats "again" this season, he will be worthy of a Kimbrel-esque contract next winter.

If he has a really, really good year.

LMAO....yes, because nothing enrages me more than the Yankees spending money foolishly, again.
