  • 2K14: Erik Johnson

Looks like Johnson is almost assured a spot in the ChiSox rotation, this after he dominated two levels in the minors and held his own in MLB. He posted a 1.96 ERA and 0.99 WHIP at AA and AAA, before he was promoted and posted a 3.25 ERA in 27 IP with Chicago. But in those 32 IP, he gave up 5 HRs -- almost as many as he gave up in his entire minor league career -- and had a 1.56 WHIP.

What can we expect from Johnson in 2014?

Based on what he did last year, his status going into last year as the team's #4 prospect, and the White Sox' "lofty" position right now, you'd think he deserves at least a shot at opening the year in the rotation. However, things being what they are, the organization may say, "We're not going anywhere this year, so let's send him to AAA, issue some blah blah statement relating to his having only 10 AAA starts, and keep him down until July to avoid Super Two status."

Don Cooper: "Erik Johnson is penciled in pretty firmly" for starting rotation this year.

"Penciled in firmly" is an oxymoron.

That said, he's one of the better candidates for the rotation, and I hope they don't send him down unless he has a really bad spring.
