  • RHD's Latest Top 150 Roto Prospects (New Year Edition)

I'm celebrating the new year by posting my latest list. The next list will be the one with the write-ups, which hopefully will be just before BA posts their Top 100 around mid-February.

Same spiel as usual: I generally follow BA's prospect eligibility requirements, which are <=130 MLB AB or <=50 MLB IP. Unlike BA tho, amateurs, unsigned draftees and foreign players are eligible. Also, while BA has a different IP limit for relievers (30 IP?), relievers are eligible as long as they dont have >50 IP. As usual, this is for roto, not 'real' baseball, so pitchers are downgraded some, catchers downgraded somewhat (unless they're elite prospects and their bat will play at any position), actual closers upgraded a lot, SB guys who project to get playing time get upgraded some, and guys who either currently are or project to soon be regulars can get upgraded quite a bit. Position listed is their current primary one to the best of my knowledge (correct me if I'm wrong), not the one they're likely to end up at.

    Happy New Year!!!

ALWAYS love this list. I'm hoping none of my league-mates use this (I'm looking to grab Despaigne).
Badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges!

A quick look and most of my questions are about guys who dropped on the list, I'm sure some were not that their stock dropped---they were just passed by guys whose stock rose. The guys I have questions about:
      R. Odor ---had what some are calling a 'breakout year', Kinsler was traded meaning he's now only blocked by 1 player instead of 2, but drops 9 spots
Rodon---Is the drop because he's liekly landing in Houston---a hitters park?
Abreu--got signed, is going to a hitters park, still dropped
Bundy---underwent surgery and up 22--is that because we all believed it was inevitable and now it's out of the way? (last year at this time he was 'healthy'??)
      Cecchini--good year, down 7
Cowart--bad year basically held his ground (down 3)

      As always THANKS!!
as you can tell by my list, I lean AL....

Thanx for your response, Grinch (Xmas came once again in spite of you ).

Odor dropped because others passed him and because of my own adjustments. He made a big leap last time and I decided I put him a little too high. He appears to be good enough that Texas will make room for him somewhere, or else trade him.

Rodon and Abreu dropped solely because others passed them. Abreu's signing made no difference. USCell is a hitter's park, but not enough to make me change my valuation.

Bundy probably was too low before and BA's ranking of him above Gausman was a factor also. Probably still too low, but I want to see how he is when he gets healthy. I often go back on forth on ranking injured pitchers.

Experts seem to be somewhat lukewarm on Cecchini and it appears that he may be towards the back end of BA's Top 100. He may have a problem fitting into the lineup when he's ready.

I dont know about Cowart. He's in danger of dropping off the list, but I havent seen BA's ranking and latest scouting report yet. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt for now.

curious why you dropped Jankowski so much. His BB% and SBs skyrocketed upon his promotion. He's never going to hit for power, but that was evident before. Is it just that he may be a one trick pony for fantasy reasons, if he ever reaches the pros?

            Yeah, I stickied it!

Despaigne was allowed to go to the Mexican League this year under the exchange program for players who the Cubans do not believe are a danger for defection. Take from that what you will, but it doesn't seem likely he's going to come to the U.S.

                Thanx for the response, Mike.

I was curious to see what effect if any allowing Cuban players to play in the Mex league would have on their desire/ability to defect. So far, it looks like not much, since at least 2 more Cubans have defected in the past 2 weeks. What someone like Despaigne can get playing in the US doesnt compare to what he earns in Mexico. I have no idea whether Despaigne will defect or not, but I'm not changing the way I rank Cubans because of the Mex league option.

Also, you'll notice that Velasquez (as well as Ruiz) is on the list now. Altho I dont know if he'll stay there. I'm curious as to where BA will rank him and what his scouting report will say.

Jankowski doesnt seem to be too highly thought of by the experts. BA didnt rank him in their SD Top 10, altho that is a pretty deep system. In their chat, they indicated they see him as more of a 4th OFer. Still, his SB potential makes him intriguing, which is why I kept him on the list.

curious why the huge drop on JP Crawford. Did something happen over the off season? He impressed me a good bit in his first season.

Nothing happened. It's hard sometimes to rank new draftees. I think Crawford's drop was mainly because it looks like he wont make BA's Top 100, whereas before I was thinking he'd make it. So I put him w other guys like Davis and Jace Peterson who have great SB potential and have a good chance at being regulars but dont quite make most Top 100 lists.

as always, appreciate the great work.

big jump for Matt Davidson - 58 to 35; is that solely because of the opportunity he has in Chicago now, or have you seen something that bodes well that wasn't there before?
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

Yes, the jump is because his playing time appears almost guaranteed now whereas in Arizona it was uncertain, and because I expect him to hit well enough to stay in the everyday lineup, altho I dont expect above average.

Why the lack of love for Abreu? Given the results of the Cuban players lately, I would have thought that he'd be ranked higher.
