Uh-oh Hamels:
Cole Hamels (shoulder) won't be cleared to resume throwing for a few weeks.
Braves manager Brian Snitker said Hamels will report to camp later this week for rehab. Hamels signed a one-year $18 million contract with Atlanta in December. He developed irritation in his shoulder during offseason workouts. He has been advised to rest the shoulder and will be re-evaluated in a couple of weeks. The timetable makes it nearly certain that Hamels will begin the regular season on the injured list. He spent last season with the Cubs, going 7-7 with a 3.81 ERA in 27 starts.

if only there was a way for the Braves to have known the risk:
09.29.2019... Cole Hamels (shoulder) struck out eight batters over four scoreless frames against the Cardinals on Saturday to close out his season.
Spin: Bothered by a shoulder issue, this was his first start since September 16. Hamels can at least go into the free agent market with some peace of mind. The southpaw got off to a great start this season, but things largely went south after his oblique injury in June. He'll wrap up 2019 with a 3.81 ERA and 143/56 K/BB ratio in 141 2/3 innings over 27 starts.finished 10th in this 37th yr in 11-team-only NL 5x5

Surprisingly high number of questions for such a good team.
3B - Riley or Camargo?
Closer - Melancon or Smith or committee?
3rd outfielder - Inciarte or Markakis?
Catcher - how many PAs will D'Arnaud survive? How much will the Braves push him?
Back of the rotation - can Felix really win a job? Which rookie(s) make up the rest after Soroka/Folty/Fried?

Will Smith is going 3+ rounds before Mark Melancon this year. But by all indications this offseason, it's Melancon's job to lose.
Is this simply a skills > role scenario? Granted I'm not at all confident in Melancon but it's odd to see that kind of discrepancy.

I imagine Melancon has a pretty short rope and people are counting on him blowing up early in the year.
