Rangers w a gem today, w Jordan Montgomery tossing 7 scoreless, winning 2-0 over division rival Seattle. And the bullpen seems to have stabilized some lately. With the Astros' loss again today, they have a 1.5 G lead over them in the AL West.Comment

It's hard to believe that D/FW has the best team in Texas, but there it is.
I still recall a sportscaster of the last century saying that Texas had never played a meaningful game in September. It was about two years before Raffy Palmero and Juan Gonzalez discovered steroids. Two World Series teams ensued.

The Rangers clinch a Division tie, a playoff spot, and win 90 games just two years after losing 100. They last made the playoffs in 2016.
The Division race goes down to the final day. The Rangers win to eliminate Seattle while Verlander throws a 1-0 gem to keep pace.
Edit. The Rangers lose on the final day and then lose the tiebreaker to Houston. Their Pythagorean win total was 95 games, so the Rangers left money on the table.

Not all that surprising, they are extremely streaky and the pitching staff is in shambles - both the starters (injured) and the bullpen (more likely to blow a save than convert one 33-30). They backed into the playoffs and wont last long there. If you watched the Rangers play over the last couple months, this is no surprise.Originally posted by Sharky View PostComment
