Jake Diekman will have surgery and miss half the season

    • If you had Josh Hamilton as a deeeeeeep sleeper, forget it -- knee surgery shelves him for 2-to-3 months

            • Beltre just came back from a 2-month voyage into strained calf land, rolled his ankle and is in a walking boot. Man it sucks to get old.

He now has 36 homers, and over half of his hits on the season are home runs. I have to think that if he sustains that over the ROS, that has to be some kind of first. That is just nuts.

                    • Gallo has been a good player. His defense helps, but I am surprised regardless.

It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

                        • I hadn't seen this, but Martin Perez broke his non-throwing elbow while rassling a bull at his ranch, and he's expected to miss at least the first month of the season. I guess this opens the door for Matt Bush to become a starter like they had talked about?

It's possible but unlikely that Bush ends up in the rotation.

More likely that they sign another starter. They still have a lot of money available to spend this offseason. Expect them to be in on at least one of the big names.

                              • What about Jurickson Profar?

He's a poster for post hype and the team is looking at Willie Calhoun as some sort of savior. Does Profar carve out times as a defensive OF? Of course he would have to hit. Even as a top prospect, power was not his game, but he has an eye and a good hit tool. Strictly watch list, but maybe worth it.
