Struggled a bit last year. Spring not going so well.

Does he keep his job? $12m for this year too expensive to sit? Jenks looming?

    What do you guys think?

    No, Bard looming.

Really?! With Jenks making $6 million a year and having lots of experience, I think they go to bobby first. [I know, I know, someone is going to write how bad jenks was last year...delete april and he was very very good]

Bard is a lot better pitcher and that's the reason why he will eventually be the Red Sox closer.

What is with the Jays, Red Sox and Orioles collecting closers? Are they all backup plans so they can showcase their main guy then flip him?

Yup. Same here. Long term, Bard's the guy barring a major arm injury. Near term - this year - if healthy, I'd bet heavily that Jenks is the guy.

So no one thinks Papelbon will hang on to his job?

Does that mean he will go very cheap in auctions this year?

Does that mean you better not trade for him?

Does that mean you better not keep him if he is $20 bucks or higher?

He just went for $21 in RJEL, which was the 6th highest among available closers (Soria, Bell, Rivera, K-Rod, Broxton, and The Beard was kept at $22).

No doubt he keeps his job as the Red Sox closer as long as he's in Boston. I'm thinking long term that Bard is the man for the job, or at least he should be. I think a lot of people on this board overrate Jinx.
