    Rotoworld:
Tim Dierkes of MLBTradeRumors.com says Johnson can earn an additional $1.25 million if he makes 26 starts. If he makes fewer than seven starts, the Padres would get a $4 million option for 2015.

I really like this contract because they also get to offer him a Qualifying Offer & get a comp pick

This is a good signing for both parties. It's comparatively low-risk for the Padres, who have to be thrifty, and a good way for Johnson to rebuild his value and get a big payday next off-season.

Johnson was also rumored to be on the Pirates' list, but now that they're suddenly a contender (that feels so weird to type!), they have to go for pitchers who are closer to being a known quantity, both in durability and effectiveness.
