  • who closes for the yanks in '14?

is robertson the new rivera, as rivera was to wetteland*?
do the yanks spend big to replace the legend?
miracle of miracles - will rivera reconsider and return??
or is there some other way to close out games?

*all apologies to mr. rivera for the wetteland comp

I voted for Robertson, who has earned the job. That doesn't mean much if one of the Steinbrenners gets a burr under his saddle or Hal, Hank, or Cashman bow to media pressure, but it's what I think they should do.

IMO they have bigger issues to address before they spend big bucks on a closer.

I thought their plan was to get under the luxury tax in 2014. One of the best ways to do that is to not spend big bucks on a free-agent closer.

I would think Robertson for the reasons already mentioned but never put anything past the Yankees. It wouldn't overly surprise me if Papelbon was there next year.

well, they either have to spend the dough on a closer or an 8th inning guy......either will cost them. The 8th inning guy will cost them less, and Robertson has proven he can do the job.

Robertson deserves it, there fore it will not happen.

              10 team AL roto 4x4 260
was offered (essentially) robertson $3 for d.holland $1.
in our 4x4, closers tend to go between $20-30. even speculative closers can go in the upper teens.
for example, from this year's draft:
              rodney $29
              rivera $26
              janssen $23
              nathan $27
              hanrahan $24
              madsen $19
              santos $13
              veres $15

              i figure d.holland might go between $10-15 in a '14 draft.
i'm currently in 2nd place and this trade doesnt project to affect the standings.
i just wanted to gauge RJ's confidence level in the yanks to promote robertson to the position.
take the safe route of d.holland @ $1, or gamble on robertson @ $3??

I think it will be Robertson with Betances moving into the 8th inning guy mid-season. They'll start out with Clairborne or Kelley or a mid-range free agent in the 8th, but Betances is doing beautifully at AAA in the pen.

I'm a Holland fan, BUT I say take this deal. If Robertson gets the job, you're getting a top-flight closer on a mid- to top-level team for a bargain price. If he doesn't, you're getting one of the best setup men in the league for a mere $3, and IMO Robertson is worth more than that even as an 8th-inning guy.

                  Take the gamble.
