"The A's have acquired Kurt Suzuki from the Nationals for a pitching prospect, according to Amanda Comak of the Washington Times.
With Oakland's No. 1 (John Jaso), No. 2 (Derek Norris) and No. 4 (Luke Montz) catchers all on the shelf, the A's needed to find someone to share time with Stephen Vogt. Suzuki makes perfect sense as a stopgap, even though he's hit just .223/.284/.311 in 251 at-bats for the Nationals this year. He was with the A's up until a year ago, so he's familiar with several of their pitchers. He could start over Vogt for now."
IMO this was a good enough get for Bright Billy considering he was in a bind (and for those who know I'm not a Beane fan, it was a situation not of his making). Suzuki is still only 29, and if he produces even at his 2010-11 levels, let alone his very nice 2009, he can be a decent asset in real baseball terms.
