  • Another AL Pitching WDIS

I need to bench 2 of the following. Need W and SV equally.

Archer vs SEA (Harang), v TOR (Happ)
    Buehrle vs BOS (Peavy)
    Lester @ TOR (Rogers)
    Porcello @ CWS (Danks)
    Rienzo @ MIN (Pelfrey)
    Shields @ DET (Verlander)
    Wilson @ NYY (Hughes)

    Benoit 4 vs KC, 3 @ CWS
    Holland 4 vs MIA, 3 @ DET
    Reed 3 vs DET, 4 @ MIN
    Uehara 3 vs NYY, 3 @ TOR

Arhcer is expected to make his next start and those are two nice matchups.
Buehrle and Shields have the worst matchups. Is it fair to sit them?

    Champions 16,21 | Runner up 17,19-20

The FOS (retired) | MTARBL | 12 team AL 5x5
    Champions 01,05,17 | Runner up 13-15,20

Tough call, all have positives, none would be a surprise blowup.

The splits actually love Buehrle. He's been terrific at home, and Boston's offense becomes very average vs LHP.

Shields has pretty decent numbers against the Tigers this year and pitches better on the road. I'd sit Buehrle and Rienzo (hasn't shown enough yet to be trusted over the likes of Shields).

I could sit a closer. Reed has 1 save in the past 2 weeks and Uehara only has 6 games.

I recommend you not sit Uehara. A good closer with 6 games is more valuable than a starter with 1 start. I'd definitely start Reed as well.

These starters are difficult to choose between each other, but that doesn't mean they're all looking really good. Just interesting.

Rienzo is unproven and I buy him as a sit.
Buehrle is 0-1 with a 4.58 ERA in 3 starts against BOS.
            Shields 0-1, 3.27 against DET.
            Lester 3-0, 2.79 against TOR.
            Porcello 2-0, 1.74 against CHW.
            Wilson 1-0, 2.57 against NYY.

Buehrle and Rienzo look like easy sits. Thanks for the input.

I think I'd bench Wilson and Rienzo. (but I don't strongly disagree with the choice of Buehrle&Rienzo)

Interesting. Why don't you like Wilson? The toothless Yankees don't really scare me this year.

He's been bad on the road. Yanks have their problems, including Hughes, but they have scored 6+ in four of their last eight home games.

I don't hate Wilson's start, but I doubt you hate Buehrle's start either. Had to choose two.

I tend to look at matchups, perhaps too much. It's tough to bench Rienzo against Pelfrey, Wilson against Hughes, or Porcello against Danks.

I say sit Buehrle and either Reed or Porcello, the latter depending on his career numbers against Chicago, which I'm too lazy to look up.

                      Ok, that's a little toothy!

7-5, 4.22 according to the CBS. I think his 2-0, 1.74 this season is more relevant though. I know he doesn't have a great K-rate but I think he's a must start.

Right now I'm leaning Buehrle and Reed. Pelfrey is 0-1, 8.10 against the White Sox.

Yeah, I'd start just about anyone against Pelfrey. And I say that as a Pelfrey owner (I was out of contention long before I picked him up as an injury replacement).
