Why ugh? Throw him in at Spring Training with no risk, let him sit in Scranton with Prior and Colon as a firewall and if he looks useless cut him. There's no upside with GArcia, obviously, but if you need innings chowed upon, he can do that.

Yeah, I know there's not really anything to lose here, but it's still not an inspiring move. I would have much rather taken a chance on the upside of J. Duchs.
Some people say winning isn't everything. I say those people never won anything.

Quitters never win, winners never quit, but those who never win AND never quit are idiots.

The last thing I want to do is hurt you...but it's still on the list.

Hey, Freddy isn't much, but he was the last SP available who had a positive value last year, other than Pettitte and Jamie Moyer. Little upside, but little downside, either, and if he can recapture his results of five-plus years ago, he's a great pickup.

He's certainly a better bet than BFBC.

Maybe he'll even be this year's Carlos Silva (1st half version) until Petitte comes back. I mean, somebody's got to be this year's Carlos Silva. Right? Right???

(Actually, I was surprised they didn't take a chance on the upside of Justin Duchscherer too. But I guess there is something to the speculation that they stay away from players who have suffered from depression or other diagnosed psychological issues, due to the NY media/fan's expectations and behavior.)

Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that the Brewers have signed Mark Kotsay to a major league contract.

                  Is Kotsay a Boras client?

Of course they do. If the Astros don't want you anymore, KC is about the only place you can go.

I can see that Edmonds signing hurting Rasmus...and it could hurt him a lot if the old man can stay healthy for a change.

Heh. I love it. Not Lopez per se, but signing him on a minor league contract. Theo Epstein picked up Lopez last September just to get the draft pick if Lopez were to sign a major league deal with anyone. Andrew Friedman just outsmarted the smart boy.

And who knows, perhaps Lopez has something left.

I like this part of it, but Felipe Lopez is the closest thing I know of to pure clubhouse poison. If he's ST cannon fodder, and pushes Rodriguez and Brignac, that's great. If they keep him, I expect they'll really regret it.
