12-team mixed 5x5. As one does, I left the auction with two or three closers. Specifically, Motte, Rondon, and Marmol. This has not worked out all that well so far.
Right now I just have Kevin Gregg. However, my starting pitcher choices have all panned out well for the most part, so I'm still doing well in the pitching categories, and I can probably afford to give up another starter. I'm not sure if it's worth trying to compete on saves at this point though.
I spent about $200 on my offense, but much of that went to Reyes, Melky, Zobrist, and Castro, so that has been unimpressive at best. I could try to get another batting upgrade -- I only have one catcher now that Gattis went on the DL, but the rest of my offense ought to be decent...
Anyway. I have 11 saves. The only team behind me has 6 and no closers right now, although he does have Putz on the DL; I don't know if he's going to activate him though. The next lowest team has 27, then there's a clump around 35, and then everyone else is 47+. The team in first place in saves by a lot is offering up some subset of Romo, Chapman, and Rivera.
I'm currently in first in wins and strikeouts by a good margin, although that team with no closers clearly has better pitching names than I do (he spent more than half his budget at the auction on SPs, and he has Strasburg, Hamels, Price, Cueto, Gio, Colon, and some other decent ones). However nobody else in this league seems to have any interest in streaming double-start guys, so that pumps up my numbers somewhat. I'm in second in ERA and third in WHIP.
My staff is currently Darvish, Harvey, Samardzija, Kluber, Leake, Westbrook (for this week), Ubaldo, HSantiago, and Gregg. I traded Fister for Coco Crisp last week.
Should I just let the saves go and maybe try to pick someone up when there's another change in closers (I didn't get Benoit or Uehara this week but I made people pay for them) or just sit tight?
