Some of the more irrational callers to The Fanatic are convinced that the offense won't get any better until Brown returns (and Utley too, of course.)

Called up today after Victorino placed on DL. Was tearing up AAA. Hopefully sticks for good this time.

Here's hoping it's for good. Brown should be a good one.

Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that Domonic Brown will be sent to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Bad news for Brown owners. The Phillies will likely need to make two roster moves prior to Saturday's game to make room for the newly-acquired Hunter Pence and Placido Polanco, who is expected to return from the disabled list. Brown obviously isn't deserving of a demotion, but the Phillies would like him to play everyday in the minor leagues, likely until rosters expand in September. The 23-year-old is batting .246 with five homers and 19 RBI over 183 at-bats this season. Source: Jon Heyman on Twitter Jul. 30 - 12:17 am et

Unfortunate for Brown who has been getting on base pretty well the past few weeks but hard to argue with the move as they aren't going to release Ibanez so there was no place for him to play.

Also, as I mentioned in the Pence-trade thread, he could use the time to learn how to play LF, because that's where he will play next year.

From purely a hitting perspective, I would have kept him and cut Ben Francisco, who has fallen out of favor with Manuel and whom Pence has made irrelevant.

yeah, ross gload or ben francisco are more deserving of a ticket out of philly, but it makes more sense to give Brown regular at bats and a chance to learn LF. Hopefully he takes it well and understand that the demotion means he's very much in their future plans.

I think that Gload is gone by the end of August, replaced with Thome or Giambi.

Agreed. They said that Brown has played something like 6 games in his career in LF, so getting him out there every day for a month in preparation for next year is a good move, imo. He's been at best ok in RF, so hopefully the move to the other corner will take a little better. He doesn't have far to go before he eclipses Ibanez's defense, so that is a positive for '12.

Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said Tuesday that he'd like Domonic Brown to spend another full season at Triple-A.
Brown posted an underwhelming .760 OPS over 174 plate appearances at the Triple-A level this season. The Phillies don't believe he's ready to be a full-time major league player quite yet, and are likely to try John Mayberry Jr. in left field to open 2012. Raul Ibanez is a free agent. He was absolutely awful in AAA, and could not master even the basic principles of playing LF. So I can understand why management doesn't feel it can count on him just yet.
