  • Which One For Next Year: Nolan Arenado, Anthony Rendon, Or Starling Marte?

    Hey All,

Ok, here's another one. To recap, I'm bagging it in my NL-only 4x4 keeper league and building for 2014 and beyond. I have another dump deal in place, and need to choose one of these three to being back to my team:

    Arenado @ $15 next year
    Rendon @ $10 next year
    Marte @ $10 next year

All are extendable at $5 per year. Even though Arenado and Rendon are the hot names, I'm not sure there's much value to be had at those prices, and if they're not extendable at those prices, I'm basically trading for one year of their services. A point in Marte's favor - our league categories are BA, HR, RBI, SB, ERA, Wins, K's, and Saves, so in a 4x4 format, his steals are heavily valued.

So, who's gonna deliver the most bang for the buck in 2014? Or will any of them provide enough value to be worth my while? And are any of them worth extending through 2015?

Then discussion in the other thread was great; I'm hoping for more of the same here. Thanks again!

rendon. assuming he sticks at 2B.

marte has no patience (K:BB ratio of 4-5:1 in both minors and majors), and that will hurt him.

arenado is similar (though not quite such bad ratios) and has no speed.

rendon has across-the-board skills, excepting speed. if the nats will let him stick at 2B this also puts him at a valuable position. and there's the possibility that zimmerman's arm gives out (have a look at his throws - extremely awkward - i don't think he's fully recovered from his shoulder surgery) and he takes over at 3B as well...

With those steals, I see Marte as a cut above, and would absolutely extend him to $15 through 2015

2nd place: Rendon - similar prospect as Arenado. Rendon hasn't shown power at the major league level yet, but he hit for power in the minor leagues and that can't be ignored. I'd lean toward Rendon very slightly even if salaries were equal and I'd probably extend him to $15 through 2015 as well.

      3rd place: Arenado

Agree with everything said here. Even though Marte was playing a bit over his head in April, he should settle in as a .270 hitter with a bunch of steals and a decent amount of homers.

In 4x4 Marte, then Arenado then Rendon.
