  • Valverde FAAB % of Budget/Strategy to bid

I am sure some leagues now have the opportunity to grab Valverde via FAAB since he was not on a roster during most drafts (assuming you can not draft FA).

We all know he has had some problems, but it appears he has the manager backing him and a save is a save. If you can grab a full time closer before May for "free", that should warrant a high bid. You could also be spending big on a guy who gets "Ax"ed(ford).

My league 12 team AL 4x4 FAAB last night and he went for 86% of the budget. Other bids were 80% and as low as 26%.

In my AL only league, he went for 64% of the budget, and in my 18 team mixed, 31%. WAY higher than my bids were...

If he were available in my league, I could see someone bidding 30-60 on him. He was picked in the reserve draft.

He went for $17 in my 12-team mixed (I bid $14), but closer values are pretty deflated in that format.

He was drafted in my mixed league, where we permit acquisition of free agents in our reserve rounds. In my 10-team AL-only league, I got him for $11 FAAB dollars. It's a 6x6 league (with holds), so that tends to depress the value of closers, but still, I was surprised to get him that cheap.

10 team AL only, $100 FAAB, bids were:
              $60
              $35
              $28
              $27
              $25
              etc.

He went for 50% of FAAB budget in my main league, the largest bid in league history. (In this league, if you're not eligible on draft day, you're not eligible all year, so there are no big NL-to-AL or vice versa bids.)
