  • NL Only auction tonight - Help a newbie brother out

Deep NL Only 5x5 league auction tonight. 29 actives and 15 reserves.

Would love to hear a few names, either active roster guys or prospects, that I could quietly target tonight. Will have to be some real hidden gems, this league is deep and owners are very experienced.

    Thanks!!

Well JG, if you are in a league this deep, I have to assume these are pretty serious players. They probably know everyone.

    Is this a keeper league?

Our NL only is 23 active with 17 res. x 12 teams. 15 keepers plus 3 rookie status guys. We can keep up to 6 rookies but then only 12 active. The best 480 players go. So if you are 10 team 440 and if 12 team 528. Only one or two players fall through the cracks, and those usually are DL or not that good.

I guess I would like to know how many teams you have and how many keepers.

I suggest Mark Appel (college) if rules allow and it is a keeper league. I would also suggest that you look at the prospect lists posted in here.

AJ Ramos - RP MIA, rookie guy, could be a future closer
If you want to go even deeper, look at Chris Hatcher, he's a converted catcher/power arm, maybe 10% chance he is a Jansen or Motte type guy

Tony Cingrani (SP, CIN) put himself in the spotlight even more than he already was with a great outing last night.

Is Heath Hembree still the heir apparent to Sergio Romo as the Giants' closer? Possibly.

Joaquin Arias (IF, SF) would probably be the prime beneficiary if Panda's elbow implodes.

JR Graham (SP, ATL) is a good prospect who might be flying a little under the radar. With Venters out a long time, their whole bullpen is in flux. Is Walden's back OK? If not, maybe someone like Cory Gearrin or Luis Avilan starts getting high leverage innings. I'm sure everyone is already familiar with Evan Gattis (C, ATL) by now, but jump on him if they're not.

The Phillies just claimed Ezequiel Carrera (OF) from the Indians, he has always had some tools but never put them together.

Jim Henderson is apparently Plan B for the Brewers' closer role, but don't forget about Brandon Kintzler who might be Plan C.

Xavier Paul (OF, CIN) is the new 4th OF with Ludwick out and Heisey starting.

Great stuff guys, thanks. As far as my knowledge - yes- I have been in this league for 15+ years. However, I did not have much time for my due diligence on my roster fillers and hidden gems. I had most of the guys referenced above on my spreadsheet already - but now I have them highlighted. I have a history of not paying big money for closers and scouring the free agent scraps for saves. I will probably try and get a few of the names above in the reserve draft and hope one or more get a few saves. Thanks again.

I mean I think you have to draft Stryker Trahan just because, right?

I'll sound like a Mets homer, but I'm very high on Niese and Gee this year.
I could say Harvey, too, but everyone is high on Harvey so he doesn't really fit the premise.

I love Gregerson - great, consistent pitcher who could land more SV again if/when Street gets hurt again/traded in SD. The Cards' Rosenthal also has an electric arm.

Cliff Pennington might only go for a couple of bucks and make you a profit...
