  • AL Reserve draft - who should I take?

I'm near the end of my AL reserve draft (10 teams, 3-yr keepers). My $4 and $3 picks are coming up and I am open to taking some prospects, but don't want someone who is almost surely not going to contribute in 2013 or early 2014 unless they are a Mike Trout type. And those guys are gone. So, with that in mind, who do you recommend out of these guys that are left?

    MLB contributors:
    Jake McGee
    Josh Fields
    Carter Capps
    Dotel
    Tazawa
    Uehara
    Strop
    Quintin Berry
    Carlos Corporan
    Garrett Richards
    Matusz
    Fauxsto Hernandez
    Samuel Denudo
    JD Martinez
    Wilson Betemit
    Pedro Ciriaco
    Alexi Casilla

    Speculative prospects:
    Oswaldo Arcia
    George Springer
    Delino DeShields Jr.
    Mason Williams
    Grant Green
    Kyle Zimmer
    Francisco Lindor
    Byron Buxton
    Addison Russell

Anybody stand out at you that I should target?

What do you need? I like Fauxto, McGee, the 2 Red Sox RPs, and I do think Arcia is worth picking up in this range.

It wouldn't hurt to grab Springer for the second half of this year and next year.

You like Arcia more than Springer?

I could probably use a fill-in P for when Happ craps the bed, or when someone gets hurt. I'm good on Ks, bad on Wins and Saves. Hitting-wise, bad on AVG. But here just looking to get good, valuable mid-season trade chips or flexibility to deal with bad/hurt players as they come up. High-end relievers are usually useful in that regard.

In a keeper league and for trading I think I might like Springer the best of the bunch.

That's a lot of negatives. Are you saying you DO like Springer as the best of the bunch? That's kinda what it sounds like. He and Arcia seem pretty even at this early stage.

              McGee
              Springer
              Strop

With a cursory glance those names jump out to me.

Arcia looks like he has just as good a shot to come up in the 2nd half as Springer, and I think he's a lot more ready. I also don't think his ceiling is that much lower.

Wow you got that right. I fixed it.

Springer is at the top of my list, could there be a case made that would drop him to second, maybe. If I am in your shoes I would take Springer.

Nobody likes Josh Fields, eh? Saves potential in HOU?

Not to draft... Maybe Faab down the road?

Great thread. I have heard of most of these guys, but not these two. They are now on my scout team.

I took McGee and Springer with my $4 and $3 picks. As of now these guys are still available for my last 2 picks:

                          Danny Duffy
                          Felipe Paulino
                          Fauxsto
                          Uehara
                          Tazawa
                          Jason Bay
                          Ricky Romero
                          Addison Russell
                          Kyle Zimmer
                          Oswaldo Arcia
                          Josh Fields
                          DeShields Jr.

I really liked Paulino last year ... not sure what you'd get out of him this year tho (they're targetting mid season for his return from TJ) but he's a good play for next. Beyond that I'd probably speculate on DeShields or Fields, probably in that order (I like speculating on speedy guys as they tend to be quickest to contribute from a roto/fantasy perspective).
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

                              Arcia for me.

I think I might try to catch lightening in a bottle in Ricky Romero with that last pick.
