  • Few conundrums, help appreciated. Gotta decide by tomorrow, Motte, Kuo, Franciso, etc

NL Only, $27 budget, (OBP, R, RBI, Net SB, TB X K-BB/IP, ERA, Net S+H, W, WHIP)

-Can drop or keep Motte at .50 or extend for 2 more years at .60
-Can drop or keep Kuo at .75 or extend 2 more years at .85
-Can keep Ben Franciso at .25 or extend 2 more years at .35
    -Keeping F. Cordero at 1.75, can extend 1 year @ 1.80 or 2 @ 1.85
-Keeping Halladay at 4.15 and can extend 1 year @ 4.20 or 2 years at 4.25 (thinking bout doing it cuz i know I wouldn't get him back cheaper next year barring injury/collapse)

Thoughts (yes I read the Kuo/Motte thread and have a grasp on what everyone thinks, just tryin to relate it to salary, fairly new to auction leagues)?

    Thanks!

I'm just going to move your decimal point over one to get my head wrapped around this...

    I'd extend Motte.
I'd keep but not extend Kuo, Francisco.
No extension for Cordero. I don't even like him at 1.75.
If you think that's a good price for Halladay, then go for it. With NL pitching being as deep as it is, my instinct is to not extend.

I probably would do the same as Will on Motte, Kuo and Francisco.
I would keep Cordero, but would not extend him.
I would keep Halladay as well. In our 10 team NL only league he went for $51 (or 5.1) last year, and will probably go higher this year.

        I'd keep Motte, no extension.
I'd keep but not extend Kuo, Francisco.
        Drop Cordero.
        Keep Halladay but no extension.

        I am torn on Francisco.
After former Broncos quarterback Brian Griese sprained his ankle and said he was tripped on the stairs of his home by his golden retriever, Bella: “The dog stood up on his hind legs and gave him a push? You might want to get rid of that dog, or put him in the circus, one of the two.”

          I think I'd go with:
          keep and extend Motte
keep Kuo and Francsico but not extend
          Drop Cordero
          Keep Hallady but don't extend.

If you could extend Motte 1 year I'd do it, otherwise keep him but don't extend him 2.

Keep Kuo, no extension. Keep Francisco, no extension.

Toss Cordero back. At $17ish (out of 260) he is not worth it in a league where there are 32+ sources of S+H.

I would extend Halladay a year. That K-BB / IP category looks like it should be renamed the Halladay Category.

Since it looks like McClellan is going to be starting, I'd extend Motte, given that Franklin is hardly rock solid as StL's closer. If McClellan wasn't starting I wouldn't extend Motte. Once you don't extend a guy it becomes harder to move him, and should he end up in the closing role later this year his trade value to those who dump would be alot greater.

Agree on no extensions for Kuo or Francisco, neither are guaranteed impact roles beyond this year, and it looks like Kuo is now behind Janssen for saves in LA.

I'd keep Cordero for one last year at that price if there won't be many closers available at auction; if there will be, I'd throw him back.

Halladay is a close call. I have him at a similar price in 4x4, and keep going back and forth. Yes, NL pitching got deeper in the offseason, but is less so than a month ago, given the injuries to Wainright and Greineke. But spending that much money up front leaves you much less money available at auction should a buying opportunity arise. And if you've been in a league awhile, you should be able to come to a conclusion of the likelihood of that occuring, giving the tendencies of the other owners.

As far as keeping him because he went for 51 and will go for more in Catfishkid's league, note that he is in the Philly burbs. And remember if you significantly overpay for a stud, that is money you are unlikely to get back. If Halladay has an off year, and only puts up 30 or 35 in value, you cannot mitigate the loss of paying 10 or 20 more for him because you are not going to cut him. In contrast, the money you overpay for lower end players is somewhat salvageable because you can cut them and find potential improvements in the free agent pool.

It looks like some are on the fence about Halladay. I would extend him one year. He is consistent and the best.

I do like the extension of Motte. Not so much because I think Franklin will lose the job as he is done after this year and will not get resigned by the Cards. You get a cheap closer next year.
