$5/yr raises for either of these guys?

    Espinosa $5 (leaning no)
Craig $10 (definitely getting a raise, deciding between raising to $15 or $20. probably $15)
In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.

Depends on inflation on the Craig question. $20 for 3 is not bad. Also depends on how much cash and the rest of your needs. $5 can be 2 or 3 players in the end game.

I would also add the closer you are to winning it all, the more I would lean to only one year. If you are anywhere close to rebuilding or a 3rd or 4th place finsh the more I would give him the extra year.

I'd keep Craig's raise to $15, given his injury history. Espinosa, probably not.

          Espinosa - Definitely no.

Personally, I'm more conservative with contracts and I wouldn't extend Craig either. I'd prefer to have him and the +$5 if I'm in position to make a run this year. I can certainly understand you wanting to extend him and would only do the $15.

Hoping to jump on this thread with my issue - involving long-terming Billy Hamilton:

12 team, NL only, Ultra league (29 starters, 15 reserves), 5x5, auction league and reserve draft.

I have Hamilton in the last year of his three year contract for $10. I am not planning on getting value from him this year, as I can start him on my reserve list this year, but if he can actually stick in the majors for the next few years, he could win me SB's almost by himself. It's $5 per extension year...as of now I am thinking of bumping him to $20 and have him for two years after this season. But then a part of me says "if he can win me steals for two years, why not win for three years and go $25?"

Would appreciate any opinion or feedback on long-terming Billy Hamilton. Thanks

If I understand this correctly the raise you give him will not count until he is activated? If that is true you will need him to get on base to make it worth it. He may not do that. If you put him back do you get to bid him or is he in a reserve round draft?

Extending a guy before he's even made his major league debut? That's some hardcore stuff right there. I'd be inclined to not extend him at all, but if you're set on it then I'd cap it at 2 years unless there's no penalty for throwing him back before his contract's over.

As for the original question, I myself did not extend Espinosa at the same price. He's already got Rendon breathing down his neck and with his propensity to strike out he might not even be a regular if traded to another team. Craig I would extend for one year, injury concerns and relatively short track record would scare me off from anything more than that.

Since he is starting the season in the minors, he does not cost me anything this year. If I throw him back, he would no doubt be the first pick in the reserve draft and be kept by that owner for the next three years. Very deep league. Then, if I long term him and he stinks up the joint I would have to pay his contract price in cash to release his long term contract. It is a gamble, but I drafted him two years ago and now this is the situation I am left with.

Then I would extend him. I want him 2014 and 2015. I would pay the cash if I need to drop him. All hobbies have some costs.
