  • Increased Playing Time: Late ST Position Battle Updates

Now that we are a week or so away from most drafts here is the place to post position battle updates.

    A few intriguing battles:
    Stl 2B-sounds like Matt Carpenter
NYM OF-Valdenspin may have the job, despite being a knucklehead that does not wear a cup.
Col 3B-Nelson or Arendado, more than likely Nelson to start year.
ETA: FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Rockies are giving "serious consideration" to making Nolan Arenado their starting third baseman. (Rosenthal adds that the Rockies are still looking to upgrade their starting rotation, and could use Chris Nelson or Ramon Hernandez to acquire a veteran pitcher. Arenado is batting .276 with a 1.069 OPS in 29 plate appearances this spring. If he continues to hit, he could force his way on to the Opening Day roster.)
SD OF-Carlos Quentin is hurting, so maybe Denorfia gets more PT to start the year.
    Hou SS-Tyler Greene?
Please add what you may know by reading the tea leaves.

Jon Heyman reports that Gyorko is likely to be the starting 2B over Forsythe: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/jo...-padres-2b-job
In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.

The third base battle in Atlanta is still up in the air between Juan Francisco and Chris Johnson. Both have played well in the spring.

Min CF - Aaron Hicks looking like he might make the jump from AA.
Tor 2B - still close but Maicer Izturis seems to have a nod over Bonaficio
NY LF - whoever gets cut from any other team this week will instantly become the new favourite, replacing BBoesch, Ben Fransisco, Matt Diaz, ...
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

According to Rosenthall, unless Rick Porcello gets traded Smyle will be going to AAA.

Matt Diaz was released by the Yanks yesterday...

What Horns said, plus I believe Boesch is the new favorite. But yeah, there's always a chance someone else gets added to the mix, especially if they can play first base (where the Yanks are possibly going with a Juan Rivera/Dan Johnson tandem for the season, lol)

With Headley out looks like Forsythe will see increased PT.

Domonic Brown hit his 6th HR of spring. Gotta figure he's wrapped up one of the PHI corner OF spots, for now.

I think brown us a lock for RF full time now. The bigger question is LF where it looks like lance nix might get the better half of a platoon until/if young ever gets healthy
