  • Alex Gonzalez (Milwaukee) - Sleeper?

Looks like Alex Gonzalez will be the opening day first baseman for the Brewers. Since he qualifies at SS in many (most?) leagues, is he now an interesting sleeper? I had him pretty cheap last year, and everything looked good until that ACL tear. Maybe this year? Or is his playing time a total question mark when Hart comes back? Seems like he can back up at 1B, 3B, and SS. So there could be some playing time. Interested in any thoughts the bullpen might have.

in 15 MLB seasons, he's had one or two non-waiver fodder years. You'd have to be extraordinarily desperate to have him in any (NL or mixed) starting lineup.

eh he might be a decent stopgap at SS in a deep NL only. He really was pretty good before getting hurt last year.

Just remember that he'll likely trash your average...other than that, he'll give you some power and Ribbies.

12-team or more NL-only, he's worth a buck or two with the SS qualifier, sure.

and kudos for not pitching a sleeper who is on all the sleeper lists already!

Agreed. He is truly a deep sleeper. Probably should be left to his slumbers, however.

He is the oldest guy on the Brewer's bench, so that make's him the top choice to get any extra playing time that comes up. In terms of what he can do with that playing time, it's exactly what Hornsby said.
