  • 2k13: PONY Auction thread

Tomorrow is the annual PONY draft, a gathering of mostly RJ members for our annual keeper league auction in Canton, Ohio. This year we'll have 15 teams. The pizza is ordered, Griswold is bringing the pink donuts, and the keepers are locked and loaded (see Google Docs link below if I did it correctly).

There's always a good amount of smack talk so I wanted to kick things off a day early.

Last year the LilDogs paid $12 for a young OF starting at AAA. Everyone scoffed. That guy was Mike Trout. Oops.

A few years ago, Heyelander meant to buy Michael Saunders and bid $2 over the top of someone's $1 bid. He ended up buying some guy named Mike Stanton instead.

There was also the time that Chris Duffy went for $17.

Last year I had the very first pick in the reserve draft. I took Jake Arrieta. Fernando Rodney went 7th.

Last year the first 5 players nominated were: Tulo (44), Kemp (55), Cuddyer (25), Cespedes (21), and Verlander (39).

Oh, and let's see which lasts longer, the latest episode of Paul and Jason's podcast, or my trip to Canton tomorrow. I think both are around 2.5 hours.

Heh. The commish of my main league did the same thing that year. We still bust on him about it.

I have arrived in...Cleveland. I will be down tomorrow morning ready to celebrate beating Del and Wayne in the most recent VD Draft.

As for my prep, I have successfully scratched off the guys kept from a giant list. Mind you it is no big book, I do not have a plan, but I will not be Duffied. See you tomorrow guys.

Doggone it, I wish I could be there. You guys just HAD to change the date, didn't you?

This year, decide a date before you leave, and let's STICK with it this time!

I've sent Gris a few instructions for what he buys for my team, but his own team has to come first. I'll be satisfied as long as I get some quality guys and he stays roughly within the guidelines I sent.

                      Happy hunting!

The problem with drinking enough caffeine to get me here is that once I'm here i can't fall asleep. Anyone mind if we postpone the start until 11?
