  • Here's my AFA team lineup for now after waivers cleared this morning. It will certainly not resemble this list in a few months. I clearly need more SBs, but thankfully Brett Gardner was cut this morning. I'll put in a claim for him and would likely cut K.Davis, Rasmus, or Castellanos to make room. Peavy and Z.Wheeler were also cut this morning, but I don't see either as huge upgrades from what I grabbed.

    C: J.Castro
    1B: C.Hart, A.Lind
2B: A.Rendon, S.Gennett (Dozier is available, but I am not big on him)
3B: M.Dominguez (Chris Johnson was claimed ahead of me)
    SS: A.Escobar, J.Iglesias
    OF: K.Calhoun, W.Venable, K.Davis, C.Rasmus, N.Castellanos (<-- will backup 3B once qualified)

    SP: T.Walker, A.Wood, A.Griffin, S.Kazmir, J.Lackey, T.Ross
    RP: J.Crain, M.Melancon, J.Soria, D.O'Day (no clear closers available)

And I appear to have an even weirder Cub fan than me in my league. His team name is Chicago and he just picked up J.Baez and K.Bryant to likely clog up his bench for most of the year. Unfortunately, he didn't drop anyone of value.

    • I thought about maybe trying to keep only 1 player per MLB team on your roster at all times (so you can only have 1 Cub, 1 Marlin, 1 Yankee, etc) but I think it would be too much work and maybe too gimmicky. I'll just stick with my NL team and my AFA team for now.

      Davros, is Nate Jones available?

      • re: different formats - a simple one I was thinking of ... I would like to try a draft where you can only take players who do not make their team's opening day 25-man rosters - but only major league stats count. not sure about transactions through the year. roto style scoring. Obviously the angle would be to find players who will get the most AB's and/or IPs.
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

Nope, he was drafted (by the Cubs fan I mentioned). Very slim pickings in the closer front in this league. I'll probably try to grab whomever will be expected to fill-in for Crain once it is clear that he will miss the first few weeks of April, though we don't know if that will be Qualls, Fields, or Lo right now. I am not worried as there is always loads of closer turnover.

          • I wonder if you'd have a chance of winning if you limited yourself to just one division - say the AL East. So you'd have good players and free agents available to you, just 1/6th the number that the other owners have.

Which division would you take? I might take the NL West personally. Given the makeup of my NL team (really good) I think a division team would be possible, but a lot harder.

I got my NL team last night. Sadly I had the #1 overall pick. Of course the team picking second took Robbie Cano, so the #3 team got Trout.

Should I have picked Kershaw over Goldy? Now I'm having second thoughts even though looking at my team I needed the bat. I tried to prioritize offense since pitching is easier to find on the wire. But it didn't really work. I thought about putting Hanley #1. Maybe I should have.

              Here's what I got

              1. Goldschmidt
              2. Carlos Gomez
              3. Jose Fernandez
              4. Ryan Zimmerman
              5. Craig Kimbrel
              6. Gerrit Cole
              7. Trevor Rosenthal
              8. Mark Trumbo
              9. Wilin Rosario
              10. Jedd Gyorko
              11. Jason Grilli
              12. Jonathan Lucroy
              13. Aramis Ramirez
              14. Patrick Corbin
              15. Ben Revere
              16. Jim Henderson
              17. Zack Wheeler
              18. Johnny Peralta
              19. Christian Yelich
              20. Justin Morneau
              21. Dan Haren
              22. Eric Young
              23. Tyson Ross

              • I think you have a pretty balanced team, JC. I think Goldy was the right pick. Though I suppose your middle infield is a little light but not bad. You should be able to trade saves, I don't think you need four closers.

Side note, in one of my hockey leagues I decided to not draft anyone from the Islanders, Devils, Penguins, Capitals or Flyers (the old Patrick division rivals of the Rangers) and I won the league that year.

                • I did a Yahoo 11 team mock draft. This is what an NL West-only team would look like. Would this have a chance of winning a standard mixed league?

I think I picked Casual. Winner is a little tough for AFA. My AFA team should be drafted tonight, I think.

My NL team is coming together. Traded Rosario + Grilli for Hanley (and D'Arnaud who might be cut) so I now have

                        C LuCroy
                        1B Goldy
