  • RHD's Latest Top 150 Roto Prospects (Pre BA Top 100 Edition) (write-ups to come)

Here's the latest list. I wanted to post it before BA posted their overall Top 100, which will be posted Feb. 19. I will do writeups for all these, but I'm still working on them and I'll post them later.

Same spiel as usual: I generally follow BA's prospect eligibility requirements, which are <=130 MLB AB or <=50 MLB IP. Unlike BA tho, amateurs, unsigned draftees and foreign players are eligible. Also, while BA has a different IP limit for relievers (30 IP?), relievers are eligible as long as they dont have >50 IP. As usual, this is for roto, not 'real' baseball, so pitchers are downgraded some, catchers downgraded somewhat (unless they're elite prospects and their bat will play at any position), actual closers upgraded a lot, SB guys who project to get playing time get upgraded some, and guys who either currently are or project to soon be regulars can get upgraded quite a bit. Position listed is their current primary one to the best of my knowledge (correct me if I'm wrong), not the one they're likely to end up at.

So THIS is where the RJEL guys get their MiLB lists from. Brilliant. Thanks rhd.
Find that level above your head and help you reach it.

Seriously, This is good to see.

I was wondering about Jean Segura, who I see is not eligible. Where would he rank?

        Thanx for the response, onejayhawk.

Segura was #40 on the last list, and he'd be around the same now. I guess ranked next to Eaton at around #44 or so. I see him as a solid regular w a good # of SBs.

Thanks as always. With recent trades of some of these prospects or even trades of Chris Young (Az) did you make major upgrades/downgrades of these guys.

                Thanx for the response, schlesinj.

I dont usually adjust my rankings too much after trades or other roster changes. That's because the rankings reflect the fact that I project the players to get substantial playing time at some point. Roster changes may delay or hasten their appearance in the everyday lineup but if they were projected to get playing time before the change usually they still project to get it afterwards also, altho perhaps at a later point in the season.

That said, trades can block a player from playing time. E.g., if Texas were to sign Bourn (which makes sense to me), L Martin's playing time would likely evaporate, and he'd be knocked down quite a bit on my list. The trade of Chris Young made Eaton's path to regular time more certain, but the word was that he would be the regular CFer even before the trade, so my ranking of him didnt change much if at all. Of course w a management like the D'Backs', who knows what they'll do! But I hear they like Eaton.

I thought that Nakajima's playing time might take a hit after the Lowrie trade, but it looks like Lowrie will play 3B, relegating Donaldson to the bench, where I think he belongs. So I didnt move Nakajima at all (I'll stay tuned for further news). I did bump up S. Miller about 15 spots after the Carpenter news, since he figures to be in the rotation now sooner rather than later.

I plan to post writeups for the 1st 40 sometime in the next day or so. Hopefully, another 40 every 2-3 days after that. So, I hope to have them all done in the next 2 weeks or so. Links to them will be in this thread.

I see you have two international guys in Despaigne and Tanaka ranked. What are the chances for each of them coming over and how much would their ranking improve if they were to do so?

Thanks for all the hard work!

                        Thanx for the response, Rufus.

I expect Tanaka to come over soon, maybe as early as next year. My current ranking of him reflects that, so if he were to actually come over that by itself wouldnt change his ranking.

I have no idea when or whether Despaigne is coming over, and I dont see how anyone else does either. I havent heard that he wants stay in Cuba, like Gourriel. He's the same age as Cespedes and he's seen how well he's done since coming to MLB and the money he got to sign. So, in absence of evidence to the contrary, I assume he's interested. The upcoming WBC could be another chance to defect, altho I've never heard of any Cuban defecting after the WBC.

Yep. He has a chance to make BA's Top 100. At any rate, he seems to project to be a MLB regular, and he's one of the fastest guys in the minors, so crazy SB potential. That's why I have him this high.

As a Phillies fan, what do you think of him?

I like him a lot. Last year was his first year of switch hitting and hit did fairly well. His defense is raw at SS as he played CF in highschool, but scouts say he should have the skills to stick. The phillies threw a lot at him last year and he thrived, so I'm excited.
