I just took over a team in an existing dynasty league with no limit on keeper years and was offered this before I even had a chance to change my team name on the league site:
I give: Mike Trout
I get: David Ortiz, Michael Choice, Robbie Erlin, Brad Miller
I don't think this is such a terrible offer. What do you think each guy is worth?
Pierre has no power, but the steals and batting average could make him a good play.
Really? Hayward is likely to steal half as many bags as Pierre, hit 30 times more HR's, and hit for a similar average...not to mention RBI's. Sorry, it's a terrible offer.

With health, and expectations for both being met I think they are both close to $25 guys. Heyward has a way higher ceiling but with it being an expiring contract and Pierre being $4, I wouldn't think enough of it to add it to this thread. Name for name though it looks lame especially since one is shiny big time prospect and the other is an older guy with a lower ceiling.
Find that level above your head and help you reach it.
For this year, Pierre for 16 dollars less than Heyward is not an objectively bad offer, considering that Pierre only earned 6 dollars less than him than last year. It may look worse once you take 2014 and beyond into account, but that would depend on the impact of the league's keeper rules on Heyward's salary.

I think that there's about a coin flip's chance that Pierre isn't in baseball next season...unless he's willing to accept a minimum offer. He's pretty close to useless in real baseball terms.

NL only 5x5 $260 budget, was offered a $4A Juan Pierre for my $20 Heyward (done this year). I first thought it was a joke.

I guess you could argue based on the rest of the teams needs but a chuckler to me even if I needed SB's. The Trout offer isn't even funny. I agree with Hornsby, Pierre is a twisted ankle away from a fantasy checkers league.
Whether you like or dislike the Pierre offer the discussion here should prove that it is not a ridiculous offer. The opinion of reasonable men can differ.

You would be exactly right if the contracts were equal. You're running a straight-up comparison of their numbers as if their keeper value is equal...it's not. The fact is, however, that Pierre is $16 cheaper than Heyward, who has an expiring contract. So while Pierre may not be in the game in 2014, it's not like Heyward is freezable at the end of this upcoming season. The fact that $20 Heyward is expiring this year(so it's not like he has future value) and Pierre is $4 means, imho, that this is not a terrible offer. Would I accept it if I had Heyward? No, I wouldn't, but that doesn't make it a terrible offer.
Actually I would say it is a terrible offer. Pierre does not have such a predictably valuable future that you can trade 2013 value and hope to make it up in 2014 and beyond. I doubt anyone would ever make this deal who is holding the Heyward side.
But you're not taking the offer based on future value, but based on what you do with the extra 16 dollars. In my experience, 17 dollars will buy you in a 5x5 keeper league, for instance, a lower tier closer, like a Grilli, as opposed to filling your last pitching slot with a flyer you hope will hit.
